Fog Light Retrofit??
Anyone ever try retrofitting the fogs on their 2012 Ge8? Ive seen those new Morimoto Matchboxes. I was wondering if they will fit with minimal or no cutting at all. And, would i be able to stick the fog housing into the oven and pry the glass off? threads i've seen in google all show people taking a hammer and breaking them off. I would rather not do that.

Everyone's talking about those Blazer projector foglight retrofits... supposed to be the bomb & easy install... but I don't see how. I think a few people over on the crz forum did it, and we have similar shaped fog lights.
as for the other Q... for the headlights... I thought about going all out and getting LS460's & pro install... but after all the positive reviews of people installing their own Mini's, I'm gonna do the retrofit myself, plus it'll save a huge amount of $$$ & if anyone conks out I can trouble shoot it easier, there's been a few minor glitches with those high end ones. |
yeah now i'm leaning to doing a retrofit myself. i wanna do both, and now with a bit of research i'm beginning to understand what needs to be done. i've been quoted a price of over 1k already. DIY is looking to be around $300-400.

There's a quite a few good DIY's on here (search mini retrofit), Jamy had a nice thread, and a few others (the member who did the Mini D1's)... the scariest part is putting your headlights in the oven... lol |
yeah i have all the threads bookmarked for reference. the H1s and D2s seem to be the easiest with almost plug and play compatibility. i may go d2s just for more bulb availability.

This is the only time ever I recommend PNP in a halogen projector. Get ford fusion fog projectors some h11 (XB's) and a harness... Fab up some mounts and your good to go no need to retro them unless you want too :) they are amazing!!! go over hid planet and search for em you will not regret it you can score them new oem for around $90 just look at there for sale threads...

If the Fog housings we have on our Fits are the same or similar size to 8thGen Civics, then retrofitting the fogs is a easy DIY. I have done about 15 sets or so..... :)
Blazer fogs are nice but the coating on the reflector side of the bowl would eventually peel off if you got a bad set. I would recommend using ES300 or the Fusion fogs. Also, baking would not work to remove the glass. plus it is really thing and shatters easily with road debris. I would always break the lens and replace with lexan. Some of my work mainly using Blazer fogs, ES300 fogs also. Attachment 16275 Attachment 16276 Attachment 16277 Attachment 16278 |

Those fogs look really good, what are you using in the housing to fill in the back of the reflector? It is so smooth it looks vacuum formed?
