Anyone taken the fog light apart yet?
I was thinking about taking the fog light apart but haven't really figured out how to yet.
I'm looking at taking the glass off of the housing itself, but it's on there real good with the silicone that they use. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks |
why'd u wanan do that? u can bake it just be careful it should fall apart.

Well, i've got these yellow caps from Acura legend fogs and wanted to put them over the bulbs.
The lens is actually glass and the body is metal (i think) so, theoretically, I can put the fog in the oven for a while and i should be able to pull the glass off, right? the silicone should soften up enough....in theory that is... only thing i'm worried about is the inside of the fog melting or something... |
You could also just put the yellow tint/film over the factory fog glass.

I believe the lens is plastic...
I was thinking of taking apart the fog light housing to remove that bulb shield. Im jus wondering what difference it would make and wheather it would be blinding other drivers. But im only going to do so when I order a new fog light (current fog light lens is cracked from a stupid rock). Anyway, to take apart the housing.... just use a hairdryer.. heat it up for a while then carefuly pry away! See if that works... -Sherman |
FYI the lens is glass.
I know cuz I've chipped it a couple times trying to pry it from the housing. The oven trick didn't work. I preheated the oven to 375 and put the housing in for 15 minutes. All i ended up doing as chipping the outside of the lens (luckily, you can't see it when the fog is installed). Not sure what I'm going to do now. Thinking about taking a dremel to the housing itself!!! |
BTW, the body is metal, not plastic. That's why I was able to put the housing into the oven for such a long time. I'm considering putting it in for longer, but unsure of what effect that would have on the silver lining inside.
