Ambient temperature gauge

Is the cyberdyne the only ambient temp gauge out there that is
less than $100 (with the sender)?

I want something real small that i can either place over the cluster
or away somewhere that i can hide.

i do NOT want the gentex type mirror cause i already have window
tint and do not need auto-dimming features...

Walmart stick on indoor/outdoor THERMOMETER $5.00

if your going for somewhat of a factory look i would say the mirror would be the best way to go. some out there dont have the dimming feature. i would have to search around but i remember seeing them cause i was looking at them awhile ago cause i have tinted windows aswell.

i found this... it's got its separate probe so it might get more accurate
readings than just a stick-on type..

hmm. that looks alright but not really the look i want. im goin for more of an oe look with everything on the interior. i bet it would work just fine though. cheap too. haha

kenchan 01-07-2008 01:06 AM

yah... im not sure if i want that thing in my car either...

here's wat the cyberdyne looks like. it's pretty cool... but
since it's regular 2-1/16" size, it's kinda big. plus ill need
to probably use a autometer cup or something.

that all depends. is there any chance of you getting an aftermarket stereo? if so you can get one of these for the double din dash kit.

they make it a little less noticable and you can put 2 other gauges in if you want. i was going to go this but i changed my mind and got a full navi screen instead.

kenchan 01-07-2008 11:08 AM

no, im pretty satisified with the stock stereo system.

im running some errands during lunch so will check out that
bell thermometer and see how big it is. if it's kinda small,
then i'll buy one and test it out.

the only thing about these cheapo's are the LCD. we're
easily in the teen's (F) in chicago for winter so im afraid
that display isnt going to work in those temps...

i might also change to lithium AAA battery...

kenchan 01-07-2008 02:30 PM

went to my local Murrays' (retailer of partsamerica.com) but could not
find that exact model pictured above. there was another version by Bell
which was longer and had a clock on it. it was too big (length of a pen)
so didn't get it.

will see if Autozone might have it later on.

bought this one to try out for now... it's sitting on my workbench and
reading the temp pretty accurately. was like $10. has clock, indoor,
out door temps. im going to just use the outdoor temps, obviously.

looks cool. where you gonna mount it?

kenchan 01-07-2008 08:44 PM

probably just infront of the cluster and run the sensor wire
into the steering column opening, front of fuse holders (inside)
and out the side to the door jam.

if it looks too stupid i'll mount it lower somewhere not visible
unless i look down.

kenchan 01-09-2008 08:47 PM

i attached the thermometer on my car today and placed the sensor
in the doorjam per instructions...

my reading is like 4F higher than actual. seems like engine heat
is getting passed through that area.

i think i need to place the sensor farther back maybe on the c-pillar side.
will post picts when i find a good location. as far as the unit itself, i
placed it on the fuse holder cover area since the fuse door has an opening
for the handle and i can feed the wire through there w/o making it look
out of place.
