Be careful out there. Its not like you're driving a tank.

why on earth would they pass like that .. it must have been easily visible.

don't think many survivors in that one. closing speed probably at least 100mph.

stinks all round.

Driver's door flew open, too. Wonder if it was locked. And wonder if this was a medical emergency? Not a sane thing to do.

i watched the video again on reddit, and upon closer inspection the Fit was turning into a driveway on the other side of the road. perhaps something they've done again and again and were distracted while doing so. that may also have saved their life: i I assumed this was a collision at highway speeds, but if they were turning, they could have been going 25mph or slower, and presumably the semi was also not going 70mph.

nonetheless that is a big collision for a little car. to the question whether the door was locked: it doesn't matter. the issue is not the door releasing, it is the door detaching. if i look at my subaru outback, it has a very thick steel post that sticks out of the doorjam and mates into a slot on the door. it's function, i have always taken it to be, is to maintain the door in place as a part of the crash structure instead of having it fly off. my Fit has nothing like that component, being an older car.
