2007 Honda Fit vs. Wide-Ass Semi Tread

I hit the tire at about 75 mph. It was a full tread/tire lying on its side. Had cars on each side and couldn't avoid it. Car actually jumped in the air...a significant amount of air... and then landed with the front tires on the front bumper/lip and it was essentially like driving on ice. Besides the front-end damage, the engine runs rough, and a few mounts seem to be broken.

No fun. $1,000 deductible isn't working as well for me as I thought, too. Completely amazed that the airbags didn't go off...then again, I never did take the Fit in for the SRS recall that was issued...although having the airbags stay off allowed me to keep the car under control after flying into the air.

I consider myself very lucky...felt like I ran over a horse!!!

You have to also keep in mind that that what I hit was essentially a full tread on its side. Think if you took a 405/105/19 tire and laid it on its side...and then rammed into it at full-speed...that's pretty much what happened.

Damn your cars rust quick up there!!! That sucks about all the bumper parts being toast!! Glad you are ok and the bags did not go off. To me it looks like the radiator mount and radiator itself are toast as well. Good luck. I may be paying a little more a month, but this is a good example of why my deductable is set at $250.

You all beat me to the rust stuff. Oh, and time to go after market front bumper and stuff I guess. At least you can get ride of all the dings in the front bumper and have some more clear painted on it.

Looks like the bags didnt go off because the sensors werent touched.
The bumper support looks fine too.

Everything else looks BAD! Sorry about the car.
I dread the day I see ANYTHING in the road and my car as low as it is. :-/

My words exactly... Since you're screwed on your deduct and the rad support needs to be replaced... I'd sell what you can front end wise (Headlights, fenders...) and go conversion.... Or buy my front end so I can!

Oh man! Was that this year? I think I remember seeing your car there! (I was running in the Time Attack with the black and gold rsx)

I can't believe how crazy the impact was....I'm glad I hit straight on, because I definitely would have rolled otherwise.

BTW, got the estimate today...$3675. I can do most of the work and source most of the parts myself, but I'm not sure if that's shady or not. I know the auto body guys who ran the estimate, but I don't wanna push my luck or put them in a bad spot...any suggestions?

damn well at least you're ok and that's the important thing.

i agree do the JDM conversion.

on a related note, did you see the mythbusters where they shot a semi-truck's tire tread into a car at 40 mph? it decapitated their jelly man. so at 75 mph you're really lucky!

The damage is not as bad as mine, my wheel wells had fallen into the wheels and melted, the bottom shields were completely gone when I had gone over the road gator. the one I hit was in mid air ran over by an SUV.

the SUV flung it into the air, I hit the brakes, but the down force,

lets just say you have about 1,200$ worth of repairs.

200$ for the new bumper, 45 for the bumper brace, 60$ or so for the grill, you can reuse your fog lights since they seem they aren't damaged, replacement wire harness goes for about 95$.

About 400$ to get your bumper repainted.

a bunch of little things may be needed. but asking your local Honda Dealership for the parts list, and a price will be good for you.

and why do you have so much rust? I've been traveling around, and I don't have any rust from all the beaches in Cali yet...

I've been traveling "around"... I have another 10k miles to do in the next month, and preparing once again. So far I've been avoiding snow, but this trip will be exposing me to the salts and ice.... urgh
