The all new Fit will be offered with a Hybrid version.
Insiders claim the electric motor will be paired with a 995cc 3 cylinder engine.
So far it sounds pretty close to the outgoing Insight.

But they also claim Honda will be able to get close to 90mpg out of this powertrain.
Even if real life numbers are way down, let's say to around 65 or 70 mpg, this would still be an amazing car.

like I said I really like the current version

Nothing more than rumor I’m afraid. I herd that they are going to replace the insight soon, but the new hybrid flagship would not come in the form of a hybrid fit. Too bad really.

it must be rumor. the next hybrid is a model specific for hybrid. doesn't come in a gas version.

Yeah, me too. I think they got the proportions perfectly.

The current car is wonderful, no argument there, but I sure like the look of this one - hope its coming sooner rather than later as the current "Sport" offering (only way to get the good options) leaves me cold.

I will wait for the new model Fit and the more folks that choose to do so will only improve the "supply and demand" for the current Fit!

When the Fit first came out I could find them on most dealer lots, but no more, as all are simply pre sold - Honda must be loving it!

I had an Insight for about a year back in 02-03. Neat little car. I think my lifetime average fuel economy was only 55mpg, but I had a short commute (it likes longer commutes, probably at least 10-12 miles so it can stretch it's legs). On roadtrips, I was able to get up to 72mpg out of it, but usually hit about 68mpg.

The IDENTICAL drivetrain in the Fit, being that the Fit is about 600lb heavier, wouldn't be that great.

If Honda gives it a more powerful electric motor (Insight was about 11hp) and a more capacitive battery, it might work out well. I figure if you can get 20-35lb-ft out of the motor, and probably 3 minutes of full discharge capacity, it would be quite peppy.

Due to my short commute, I still wouldn't want a hybrid using Honda's system, unless it had a more powerful motor and a better battery, and probably a passive/plugin recharge method.

I think the 90MPG claim from Honda, using their system, won't be possible. Given the Insight, that was light and extremely aerodynamic wouldn't get more than 75mpg or so at moderate highway speeds, with a 3 cylinder engine using the Atkinson Cycle (lean burn), I doubt they could get that to 90mpg in a heavier, less aerodynamic car.

Unless they use a diesel ICE, that is!

it dosnt look as good

kentris 08-19-2006 05:31 AM

Too curvey.

vandeetz 08-19-2006 12:58 PM

why would honda bring the car over just in time to need a complete restyle?

It seems a little odd to me

Any more word yet on the next generation Fit - will it be introduced next year?
