Nice work mister

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...8c32b18f80.jpgGutting has begun. Next out is the heater core and then I'm gonna remove the dash and weigh it. 😁

GAFIT 04-18-2018 10:59 AM

Think of ALL that body behind the two front seat that you don't need. LOL

devmail 04-18-2018 12:48 PM

Everything behind the front seats is just about gone, including the antenna and it's harness! Anything that isn't needed will be gone. I left the carpet for now as it has been raining for a few days straight and I've been working around inside.

I was thinking that a sawzall could get rid of some of that "unnecessary" metal from the front seats back. LOL

This style...

With the heater core out of the way I've got a straight shot out the old AC line hole in the firewall for a shorter nitrous line. Going from 16 feet to 4 feet will have a lot less waste in the line after the bottle is closed. Ordered that line from Dynotune...may mount the bottle vertically too, especially once i get the dash out of the way.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...31352b31f0.jpg

the only thing missing is the dash and firewall removal. just think how much weight you would save!

It's next! 😉

Just about ready to take the dash out now. Spent a few hours removing and tagging the nitrous wiring, removing the steering wheel (love that handy steering wheel puller!) and column, and disconnecting the wiring harness from the fuse panel, ecu, etc. Was able to remove the antenna wiring harness and that is 0.5 lbs not including the exterior antenna parts.

Should be able to get the dash out tomorrow night! 😄 Here's a quick pic of the mess before I quit for the night.

The dash is out! The metal support beam is 24 lbs, the plastic part of the dash is 12 lbs, not including the glove box, stereo/climate, heater blower, passenger airbag and the cover over top, gauge cluster, hazard and mirror switches. Also removed around 4 lbs more of the firewall mat, only a tiny bit left to take out. The antenna wiring harness is separate from the rest and that weighed 0.5 lbs, not including the exterior antenna pieces.

I was able to shave some metal off the support beam so it lost 9 lbs so far for a total of 15 lbs. I have to finalize the sanding on that and then paint it to go back in the car. It needs to be there at the bare minimum for the steering column, but I also kept the vertical part that bolts to a bracket on the floor and has 3 ground attachments and the bracket for the OBDII diagnostic port.

Got the support beam sanded and painted, ready to go back in the car. "Hey man, sweet rocket launcher!" 🤣https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...6a15fee5b3.jpg

It was a rainy work day so I didn't get too much exciting stuff done. I silicone capped off the coolant lines for the EGR and throttle body. Still waiting for the 5/8" caps to block off the passages to the heater core. Did some rust removal on the steering column and painted it flat black. Got more firewall mat removed from around the EPS module...only a tiny piece is left behind the brake pedal brackets. Total firewall mat weight removed since I got the dashboard out is 4.66 lbs. Once the steering column is dry I will reinstall that and start plugging back in the wiring harnesses, put on the summer tires and take it for a spin with all the extra weight out....I'm excited!

Lost another 2.65 lbs in plastics from the heater core and steering column and front speakers. Heater core itself was 6.6 lbs.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...5c589ace2a.jpg

She's alive...except for high beams and turn signals! Hmmm...not any fuse that I found yet. Perhaps a ground somewhere. Got the heater core bypassed temporarily with a stock hose until the proper caps come in. In the process of painting the ebrake after removing some surface rust. Shorter nitrous line showed up, so time to mount the bottle in a new location. 😁https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...0c9623fa13.jpg

Well that's one way of making the car faster.

Anything left to strip from the vehicle.

Not much! Replacing the 16ft nitrous line with a 4 ft, take the silencer out of the muffler, shorten some nitrous electrical lines. Last night and today I worked on removing the adjustable slider from the drivers seat brackets (dropped weight by 4 lbs) and mounting the nitrous bottle to the firewall so I can run that shorter line.

Also removed the passenger side wiper (1 lb). 🤣 Once the nitrous system is hooked up and running again I want to cover up the messy wiring harness somehow...so many extra connections dangling everywhere. When I was taking metal to the scrap yard, they said I could weigh my car there no problem...bonus!

Oh, also ordered some hood pins to see how much weight I can save from removing the latch. 😎
I still need a good light set of wheels (got my eye on a set of advanti storm s1 in 15x7)and a carbon hood and hatch wouldn't be a bad idea...just a little too expensive right now to buy new.
