Diy // gk5 coilovers / neo motorsport

Hi ! I recently installed coilovers and decided to document it to the best of my ability to help fill the void of GK5 DIY's. I went with a Canadian company called Neo Motorsports model Type BB. They ride phenomenally specially for the value.

Here's the tools you will need :
19mm socket
19mm wrench
17mm wrench
12mm socket
14mm socket
WD-40
Jack stands
Floor jack
Impact drill recommended for ease of installation

STEP 1 : Jack up the vehicle one axel at a time and place on jack stands as you will be needing the jack to help lift knuckle back into place

STEP 2 : Remove lug nuts and wheel with 19mm socket (yours may be different). After that you should be staring at your strut as pictured.

STEP 3 : With a 17mm wrench loosen the top nut but not all the way. Better to loosen first while everything else is still secured.

STEP 4 : Use floor jack to lift knuckle to relieve sag and stress on bolts

STEP 5 : Use 14mm wrench to undo endlinks (may not come off as easy for some) I ended up using vicegrips to hold the other end to get them off.

STEP 6 : Use 12mm socket to undo the brake line bolt

STEP 7 : Use WD40 to lube and slide sensor off

STEP 8: Use 19mm socket and 19mm wrench to undo the knuckle bolts ( make sure jack is still supporting underneath)
STEP 9: Remove OEM strut assembly

STEP 10 : Reuse OEM top hat rubber (use plenty of WD40) and slide into new coilovers top hat. Then slide the whole coilover into place

Top view of front assembly
STEP 11 : Assemble everything in reverse of removal or OEM strut. Assemble all bolts loosely until you slip new shorter end link into place. Then start tightening everything leaving top nut last until the vehicle in on the ground.
STEP 12 : Bolt wheels back on when all of suspension is torqued
STEP 13: Drop Front end back to the floor, Torque lug nuts and start lifting the rear end placing on jackstands again
**** Sorry for no pictures as I was running out of daylight and had work the next morning *****
STEP 14: Use jack one side at a time to relieve tension on bolts and undo the 14mm bolts holding the strut on bottom then top. repeat both sides til axel falls to the floor
STEP 15 : Undo everything (sorry for being so broad) Fit rear ends are literally held together by two 14mm bolts and nuts. Just undo all nuts and bolts and assembly is exactly the same as taking it off (be sure to refuse OEM top spring rubber)

HERES WERE IT GOT CONFUSING AS INSTRUCTIONS DID NOT MATCH THE PARTS GK5 HAS. I BELIEVE THE DIAGRAM THAT CAME WITH MY KIT USED A GE REAR ASSEMPLY DIAGRAM (SAME WITH OTHER COMPANIES AFTER SEARCHING)

Here's how I was able to bypass the error

take apart OEM strut and reuse the metal sleeved bushing (rubber inside) assemble in this order.

BEFORE AND AFTER

Tighten everything and get the car back on the ground make sure you torque lug nuts again.

As for the ride I couldn't be happier with the quality and cannot go wrong with neo motorsports warranty. Type BB is definitely worth the money for someone like myself who just wanted to close fender gap on my daily driver !

Woah thanks for the write up! I was just thinking about how writeups for GK5 coilovers installation don't exist lol. I literally finished installing the Buddy Club Sport spec coilovers on my GK today. Even their instructions for the rear damper assembly were inaccurate too... it's so weird that others have the same issue . How much were those coilovers? They look really unique. Love the look of those wheels on black too. Do you race this car at all?

I see that you don't have to remove the wiper motors and weather shields to get at the top bolt. I saw someone take out the entire wiper assembly. I am like whoa!

A great and useful writeup, thanks! Was looking for something like this for my new GK5, while I search around for decent/economical coilover kit.

awesome writeup! can we get a video of in-car ride, and maybe some moving shots from the outside?
