Replace balljoint or LCA?

Hi folks,

I think the passenger side balljoint is going. I've done some searching and can't find much on balljoints. Can I remove the LCA and press in a new balljoint, or am I better off replacing the LCA assembly? I see that NAPA has listings for both (of course the balljoint is 25% the price of the LCA assembly).

My Fit is an '08 (non-Sport) with 60k miles.

Thanks,
Bman

Sounds like balljoint replacement is not very common?

I guess I'll go the conservative route and replace the LCA assembly.

if you can get the ball joint seperately, save yourself the money and just replace that...

I would just replace the ball joint if you're only at 60k.

If you had higher miles I'd say replace the whole arm; at this point that isn't necessary. It's strange for a ball joint to go bad that soon, unless the boot was ripped.

Thank you for the responses.

I'll try to find someone who can press the ball joints out / in. I travel some rough roads (it's Cleveland after all) and don't slow down much for railroad crossings, so maybe that is catching up with me. I don't know for sure that it is not a tie rod end, except I do not perceive any play in the steering. I'll get the car up and investigate further before I replace anything. Interesting to hear that balljoint failures are rare. I guess that's why I didn't find much when I searched!
