GD3 Function & Form Type II Review

Hey guys,

So I did it. Today I finally made the purchase on coilovers for my SSM GD3; Function & Form Type II's.

There doesn't seem much info (if any at all) on this forum regarding these coils on the gd3's. I have found a couple sale threads with dead linked pictures, no reviews and a few threads from on older member KaylaAnn who had o ly one picture of her car when she had to raise it while she waited on tires. The car looked super clean and the drop looked like you could almost put the thing on the ground just based on her post. and I've seen and heard good things about these and the ge8's.

I'm rambling.....anyways, consider an extensive review to be done once I have these installed,, have had a proper alignment, and corner balancing. Of course with all the pictures you could want.

Until then...

Subscribed for reviews and pictures!

I've had F&F Type I's on both my EJ hatch and coupe and I loved it. Even having them on in winter time, it never blew a shock or even rusted a bit.
I am considering getting a set for my GD as well, just no time and funds as of now. So please let us know and show us the results!

Alright guys, I know you're all waiting for the review and it's coming....I promise. I got the coilovers on over the weekend, kind of had some issues with install. First off, There were no directions or anything telling you what pieces you needed to use from your OEM strut. They did however send a card explaining how to set them up properly, along with a liscence plate holder, sticker, quite a few informational cards on their other coilovers, warranty card etc...

With all that being said, we ran into some issues on the first go around, but everything is good now, except I believe I have the springs upside down in the back (going by the GE8 install picture on honda tuning. I have the spring perches sitting on the bottom, not the top anybody have any input to where they should be?)

Picture from honda tuning:

Other than that, everything seems be perfect. I have yet to have an alignment or corner balancing done, hopefully I can have it done by tomorrow (along with figuring out the rear springs) which will allow me to post an official review.

I'll go ahead and say that they won't slam your car like D2's....That's what I was hoping for, but I'm not disappointed either. They dropped my car in the front a little lower than my S. Techs and caused me some rubbing (I'm still on stock wheels & tires 195/55/15) The back was brought down a lot compared to my S. Techs. I'm tucking tires all around now and loving it. Ride quality has yet to be determined..

Here are a couple of pics of them maxed out to satisfy you guys till I can get everything together for the review Also, my wheels and side mirrors were dipped courtesy of DIP CREATIONS! Add them on facebook for all your plasti-dipping needs, from full cars to full interior, they have you covered!

(before and after pics of stock suspension to lowering springs, and from lowering springs to coilovers will be in the full review)

Im hoping to run 15x8 +25 VarrsToen V3's and a 205/50 tire with this setup or other wheels with similar specs. However, I'm open to suggestions!

Probably will end up taking out the bottom locking collar on the fronts so I can get more of a raked look

STAY TUNED!

I like that drop. Don't like that that's maxed out.

I have the damping set all the way hard up front, and backed off 5 clicks, the rears are set all the way hard and backed off 3 clicks.

It's going to take some time to figure out the perfect setting, don't really want to give an answer to harsh or smooth until I've got the adjustments down. I'm happy with the ride so far though, much smoother compared to the TEIN S. TECHS if that helps..

There will be a lot more info posted in my actual review, this is just to keep everyone on board with whats going on

Tell me about it mike....I like the drop too, but really was hoping for at least another inch out of them. I did take a long shot with these though considering how little info is out for them on GD3's. Happy with it overall, but I'll probably be much happier when I take the bottom locking collars out of the front. What can I say, you live and you learn.

You can bet I'm going to do some work on getting them lower, I'll also be contacting f2autolife in this regard, maybe they can hook me up with low profile collars/perches and maybe shorter springs and shock bodies? I know BC COILOVERS can do that along with others..Wouldn't hurt to check!

That's not bad at all. I wasn't really planning on slamming mine anyway because of how retarded the roads are here. Thanks a lot for taking the time to provide us with pics, I think you're the first to post pics up of this set-up. +rep!

Hello again, just a little update...

Been real busy with work and life, as well as deciding on wheels....

Recently took out the bottom locking rings on the front coilovers and I have to say, I'm loving the new stance..

I've still got plenty of room in the rear to match up with the front if I want/need to...wheels will help me decide that.

Now the second part to this post is you guys giving me some input on wheels...

Here is what I'm looking at (already narrowed down the list to these)

Chikara RS8 (15x8 +25)

Drag DR16 (15x8.25 +25)

(Not necessarily full polish but love the look and specs)

My next question is fitment wise, tire suggestions? I'd really like to run a 205 rather than 195 for the sake of having a more planted ride, less "life saver'ish". I'm already expecting fender work with the +25 offset so I'm not worried about any of that. But if running a 195 is going to help significantly in fitting them, then I will. Next, is sidewall...I'm wanting to tuck some tire, so do you think 205/45 & or 195/45 would tuck or would I be better off 205/50 & or 195/50? Like I said, not worried about fender mods, but I'm fairly new to the stance world and am looking for guidance!

Full review still to come!

i am on 205/50 on 15x8 +25 my car is low wit og skunk2 springs with 2 coils cut(deciding on wat c/o to buy) i rub on turns as my shocks are bad.when they wer good i didnt notice too much rubbing.i have all the fenders rolled and linings trimmed too.i am gonna try more camber to try to eliminate the rubbing.i think 195/50 is too small.195/55 should be good cuz of the stretch u will get

Hey guys, its been awhile..

Don't have a lot of time, but here is a picture of the stance. Taken at DFW Alliance in Texas. I was the only fit out there! Where are the rest of you!?

Finally rolling on VarrsToen V3's 15x8 +25 | 195/50/15

Front is maxed out and front locking collar removed. Fenders are rolled and pulled (I pulled them via phonebook method, just used a catalog instead, as well as my hands) Removed my fender liners and cut bumper tabs. Rubs when turning kinda sharp.. :/ U-Turns are avoided if possible

Rear is raised in the picture due to the huge rubbing problem. I ate up some tire back there one night after rolling my fenders. Raised it as soon as I got home. Tomorrow, I'm having the help of a friend and we're going to do the ol' washer trick back there. Hoping that will give me the camber I need to clear. And it will look pretty when it can finally sit down
I will be ordering 195/45/15's all around. Thinking this is going to solve the rubbing up front a lot, if not all the way, a good bit. May have to camber more up there.

Oh yeah, one more thing...She won't be SSM much longer

So if that's maxed out all around that's actually not bad. I you gain that much of a drop by just removing the locking ring up front it must have a huge drop also if you rove a ring in the back. I'm planning on ordering these this week. And wanted to see how low these would go. Thanks!

I love the drop man, they ride as good as you can for being slammed. Before I removed the collar they rode really well, but I live in DFW and the roads are terrible The rear can be brought down a lot without removing any of the perch rings (it's crazy b/c most coilovers have the problem with the rear not being able to go low enough to match the front; Not the case with these)

Post up some pictures in here when you get them on!!
