Nice! Are you just going to completely swap rear axles or transfer parts over?

The reason I ask is due to wanting to do an OEM like rear disc conversion on mine. My current dilemma is finding out what spindles, calipers, and caliper brackets will work together.

EDIT: I think the rear calipers are the same as the USDM '99 Civic SI and Integra GSR. Can you post up a picture of the code stamped on the rear calipers please? ^.^

yes swap the whole thing would be much easier only 4 bolts

the caliper brackets is the same as they use the same pads, the caliper itself is not the same cause I believe Civic brake lines goes in from the bottom or side and not the top, but if u use braided lines then it doesn't really matter

this whole beam only costs $150 but shipping over from Japan is a different story lol

13fit 12-31-2013 10:18 PM

great to have rear disc brakes, but the CRZ setup bolts in no problems. matching brake hoses and e brake cables are all you need, for future peeps

Awesome, hope the install goes smooth for you and its good to know that the caliper brackets are the same as SI/GSRs. Still, can you post up either the code stamped on the calipers or an image of the code stamped on the calipers?

Strangely enough, I forgot that the CR-Z has rear discs and a similar torsion beam rear axle. I guess its because I rarely see them around... Might have to investigate this.

ccFit 12-31-2013 11:15 PM

i will get you some pics

I have no idea CRZ has the same setup

13fit 01-01-2014 01:21 AM

insight, crz, and fit share chassis base.

For gasmileage queens, insight front control arms and using insight rear drums, shoes, and hardware leads to over 10 pounds of unsprung weight loss.

CRZ front control arms and knuckles, and rear axle assembly, makes the fit enjoy 5x114.3 and disc all around. Im not sure of weight difference, though I think we can all riightly assume unsprung weight increases

then u have to run 5-bolts?

Hootie 01-01-2014 07:35 AM

If memory serves me right, you'll only have to go 5 lug only if you use the CR-Z's hub and rotor. I'm still researching this but it seems like you'll likely have to run EP3 SI rear discs (and possibly additional/miscellaneous hardware) since they are the same diameter as the CR-Z (10.2 inches) but I'm not sure of the hub bore or spacing to be honest.

2poler 01-01-2014 01:09 PM

Will the CRZ/Insight stuff work on a GD3 as well?

ccFit 01-01-2014 01:20 PM

it does look like there is an adapter plate that bolts up to the beam that u can order from Honda, now sure if it will bolt on to the beam with drum

i will get some pics for your guys tmr when I am back at the shop

If you go thru the old T1R GD3 rear conversion threads and/or the Type R (Jodele's thread) front brake upgrade thread the information is in there about which OEM Honda parts will work for a GD3 upgrade... iirc, you can get all of them in the US. (but double check though)

Good question, the OP has a GD... I don't think CRZ/Insight fitment has been confirmed for the GD... only the GE8 is proven.

Jodele's thread lists OEM part numbers for the front brakes not rear and the T1R thread doesn't list any at all. The KEY component missing for a rear disc conversion is a rear spindle that features the correct bolt pattern to be mounted to our torsion beam AND has the tabs to mount the rear caliper... much like this spindle in the T1R kit.

I do have an idea though...

Fronts should the same if memory serves me right. The GE8 Fit and ZF1 CR-Z share the same Honda pad P/N; however, both the GD3 and GE8 have the same part number (P/N HB418F.646) when it comes to Hawks HPS pad so all three MAY BE (not confirming) interchangeable.

The rear brakes on the other hand is a new ball game.

FitStir 01-02-2014 01:20 PM

^^^True, the fronts might be interchangeable.

I'm pretty sure the part #'s are somewhere on this site, I definitely recall some one doing it, probably a "fastbrake" thread, since that kit is similar to the T1R... iirc.

swade 01-02-2014 08:05 PM

Kuo's Garage, people that made the 5 lug kit, are working on a rear disc conversion. Its on the insight now which I was told shares a lot with the GD fit. I was told to keep an eye out… But I haven't seen or heard anything lately.

ok guys here are the pics, the rear disc seems like is the same as EG or DC disc, pads are the same for sure, the adapter plate with spindle probably can order from Honda
for the T1-R kit u can't get any parts anymore as Ben said they are discontinued
