Performance brakes?

I don’t want to get any larger brake kits but I wondered if performance (marketed) brakes are worth it? For instance EBC slotted rotors and green stuff pads?

I warped my OEM rotors and it would be great if that did not happen again.

you're prob gonna get responses like "worth it" depends on the person/budget. or "stock brakes are good enough". or "buy new pads and rotors and call it a day"

personally, I had my eyes on the ITR caliper/mini rotors kinda setup. similar to this kit:

Or build it yourself, and save a few bucks:

Calipers:
R: R-06452-SM5-505RM
F: R-06453-SM5-505RM

Rotors = 06 Mini Cooper, Base Model (276mm)

Pads: Whatever you prefer honestly, as long as it's Integra Type R

I really like my EBC slotted rotors and green stuff pads. Zero noise, great feel and great price (under $175). THMotorsports had the best price when I bought them about a month ago. I also got SS lines but have not installed them yet.

I have never warped a rotor but the EBC ones should hold up better for you.

Thank you both.

Those big brake kits are not as $ as I would have expected.

What is the difference in fitment between the 2015 fit brakes and the earlier models? Everything seems to be made for the previous gen.

evilchargerfan 10-18-2018 11:31 AM

I cant say with certainty, the diffs (if any). One thing I can say, plenty of people have pulled it off and always mention that its plug & play

It is a street car, bigger brakes will literally offer no benefit.

Slotted rotors don't change anything.

Different brake pads can have different 'cold bite.' You can feel that.

OP warped original rotors. Larger diameter and/or slotted rotors help prevent rotor warping.

Larger rotors have the capacity to dissipate more heat and slotted rotors have the ability to keep the pad surface fresher so they are less likely to deposit material on the rotors which leads to warping.

I've owned one car that had undersized rotors from the factory. After trying cryo treated rotors, which warped again, I switched to slotted rotors. Solved the problem. Car was an Oldsmobile Aurora if anyone is wondering.

Interesting and that makes sense. Also interesting I read the opposite in that the larger rotors. I have read that warped rotors are not from heat but from uneven pad wear. I know nothing on the subject.

Correct. I was saying that larger rotors have the benefit of allowing greater heat dissipation. Not saying they are more or less likely to warp.

Most warping comes from improperly torqued lug nuts or a hub that is not true. Deposits from the pads can also cause warping. Slotted rotors help with that issue.

If you're overheating your brakes on a 2500# car with 90 whp, you're driving in a manner that is not legal or safe.

OP wouldn't benefit from bigger brakes.

so yeah OP, in conclusion .... good luck with your decision on going with bigger brakes. please keep us updated with whatever you end up with!

Im doing a brake swap on mine using a dc2 caliper and non turbo / non sc 280 mm mini Cooper discs
As the dc2 integra uses a 282 mm disc and that was as close as i could find with the same hub depth and stud patten with a set of braided lines and better brake fulid with ebc pads sound like you should go race pad on front and sport pad rear cant remember colour code for whats what but hope that helps

I will be installing the Blox racing bbk this week. Should look good with my 15x7 konig dial-ins, Swift sport springs, and Truhart struts.

I'm running 290mm discs with this OEM carrier, issue is I can't remember what model it is from. Any ideas?

It says W304U on the casting. Runs a standard UK/JDM GD1 hub and caliper.

I just installed StopTechs slotted & drilled rotors with ceramic pads & I notice a huge difference. Got em for $135 & Free shipping. Was money well spent.
