good, cause no need to warm up the car. just start and go gently.

I just moved from California to Detroit; apparently it is normal to warm up the car, with the heater blasting, for about 15 minutes before leaving for work in the winter mornings. It would be nice to have the heater defrost the below-freezing interior and melt some of the windshield ice before I get in the car.

Normal among the uninformed.

Idling a car for a long time is a terrible way to warm up the engine and the interior, great way to waste gas though.

As Ken said, just drive gently for the first few minutes and the car will be much happier.

yep thats the habit i had before i tried increasing my mpg. now the only time i will ever use the remote start is when its super damn cold or if i know there would be ice build up on the windshield.
