The question(s) are: is it lowered and what is the offset on the wheels?

I would say the 205's would be fine or even 195/50/15 but definitely not the 195/55's.

i think you might be confused. the 195/55 and the 205/50 have the same OD, and the 205 would be wider however. So in order of least chance of rubbing...

195/50(speedo 2mph off)
195/55 (stock)
205/50(same speedo)

Those are my two options in size both are the same price. I heard the 205s are better for cornering but you lose some mpg? I dont see why id rub with either of those.

I have 15x7 +40 lowered on tanabe gf's and I had it with the stock tires and now the 205/50's. I almost never rubbed with the 195/55's now I pretty much rub every day going to work with the 205's.(bumpy stretch of road on the way) not enough for me to care but they do rub frequently.

195/55 - 23.44" OD
205/50 - 23.07" OD
195/50 - 22.68" OD

yes the 205 is smaller but the speedo will be half a MPH off,but the spec for the speedo is +- 1mph anyway so it wont be nearly a difference like the 195/50 is

The difference in diameter can change slightly for a given size from tire to tire even with in the same brand and model. Not to mention the diameter will change as the tire wears.

Personally I'd go with a 205/50 because I like the more aggressive look of widers tires.

nope the scan gauge gets its "speed info" from the same source that that cluster does. however it is digital so that lends itself to be a bit more accurate

Assuming you have 08:
I'm with dave but I suspect only 195/50x15's will clear at your drop. 205/50 maybe but not real likely. 195/55x15 out of it.
09 you'll probably be fine with 205/50x16 on 41 mm offset 16x7 wheels.
