I Didn't Find Any 73mm Center Caps For My Wheels That I Liked, So I Made My Own

I found that 73mm center caps for aftermarket wheels are not all that easy to find. There are some nice ones out there, but they can cost hundreds of dollars, and I'm not up for that.

The center caps that came with my after market wheels just do not look good to me. Big, bulky chrome center caps on a flat black wheel isn't working. I would like some Honda caps, and I had some, but they didn't fit. So...

I merged the two together.

The end result is good enough until I find something better. Here's what I did:

Bulky chrome caps look like a cheap prize from the ring toss at the local carnival. No thanks:

I really like these. Unfortunately, they did not fit properly:

I cut off the top of the chrome caps:

I cut down the Honda caps and sanded them smooth on a belt/disc sander. Testing the fit and look. I really wantd them to fit flush into the chrome cap but I couldn't find a way to make it work without removing the chrome prongs. Sitting on top is the only way for now:

After sanding all the parts smooth, I bonded them with plastic model glue:

I put some silicone on the inside:

I painted them black with automotive plastic paint:

End result. What do you think? Better than chrome?

Thanks for looking.
