TougeMonster_GK5's Ram Air Scoop

Hello FF! First, thanks for being patient with me on finally bringing the community some updates. 8 months ago, my loving wife and had our 2nd born and life got busy quick. After almost a year after sharing this part with you all, I finally got my 3D scan of the original Sumole airscoop 3D printed. It took me 2 rounds of prototyping to finally get the desired outcome, well lets just say its the closest so far. So without further adieu, here are the details of the part I can have available for you:

TM Ram Air Scoop

Direct bolt on ram air scoop for the 2015-2017 Honda Fit. (Can fit on 2018+ model years but requires some modification to the front grill cover)
The part was printed using a Stratasys Fortus 900 FDM Printer with the material TPU 92A (a thermoplastic polyurethane with a Shore A value of 92).
(Link to TPU 92A Material Datasheet: https://www.stratasys.com/materials/search/fdm-tpu-92a)
With the combination of a drop-in high performance air filter and applying the resonator delete modification, you turn your OEM air box into an exceptional ram air intake system.
There has yet to be any data proving any power gains, but majority of those who have purchased this part from me as well as those who use it in Asia have reported improved throttle response, colder air intake temperatures and a sportier throttle note.
Other notes: There have been some questions regarding the vulnerability of the part concerning water entering the ram air scoop. The part was designed to have water that enters the scoop to flow out threw the bottom and drain into the engine bay on top of the radiator. So far no one has complained about the application since it was made available last year.

All that is required to install this on your 2015-2017 Honda fit is to remove the existing top air induct assembly (Part No. 17252-5R0-000), remove the driver side rubber hood seal (Part No. 91520-SCC-003) and install the TM Ram Air Scoop using the existing plastic push clip. No additional hardware needed.
** 2RISMO2's install of the ram air scoop for your reference: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/3rd-...ml#post1380369) Thanks again 2RISMO2!!!

Made to order, 3-5 day leadtime. PM me.

Ram Air Scoop w/ K&N Drop-in Filter - $250 shipped.

Ram Air Scoop Only - $200 shipped

The reason for the price is the time it takes to print and post process this part, and I am not selling this to make a fortune, rather would like to share my creation with the community and open your interest to the wonderful world of 3D Printed parts! Also would like to recoup on the investment for R&D (expensive 3D scanning).
Printing time takes 9 hours, and post processing is half a day. But you get an awesome, unique, organic looking part in the engine bay of your GK5, that looks factory.
MADE IN USA.

**Disclaimer: Myself nor is FitFreak.net responsible for any damages on your vehicle when using this part.**

So TougeMonster_GK5, is this "project" dead in the water? The more I look at it and think about it, I'd be down for one....I mean, yeah, a bit pricey, but a lot of folks will drop that kinda $$$, and more, on a good night out on the town, nice dinner and post-dinner entertainment of whatever type. I'm in, if you're still open to going with it...

project is not dead. Just cant find the time to dyno. And group buy is still open. Need 10 committed interests! Or if i can get 5, price will go up 20%

Put me down for one....commited....what the hell, maybe folks are just waitin' for someone else to break the ice?

In case anyone is on the fence, here's my running review on this ram air intake: Ram Air Intake

So far this is one of the top 3 upgrades I've done on my Fit and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Reminder everyone. I will be on a family vaca trip to Vietnam starting this weekend until 2nd week of Oct. Hopefully the list will have grown enough to get the order in.

Cheers!

That's why I bought his extra piece before the group buy! I wasn't sure it was going to come to fruition so I figured I'd get it just in case. Glad I did.

I'm sharing my experience and maybe others would find interest. I'm not gaining anything from my posts, just figured others would like to know and make their own judgement. If you look at my other posts on it, at first I was hesitant as well, especially on the MPG increase portion. I'm still testing that out but the amount of fun factor with it installed I wasn't expecting.

I'm going to make a suggestion, based on spending the past couple months developing a business plan for an industrial product. Feel free to ignore it.

For a molded part like this, the initial setup and tooling cost has to be pretty high. The point of making a molded part is for the per part cost to be extremely low. I have to guess that the reason the price you are charging is so high is because you're only getting 10, and the setup cost is a huge part of the cost.

My guess at the cost of production is $500 for tooling + $10 per part.
For 10: $500+(10) x $10 = $600
For 100: $500+(100) x $10 = $1,500

The price point you've set ($150) seems to be higher than most people are willing to pay for this mod. I know that's true for me. For a part like this, I'd be willing to pay maybe $50, or $75 at the absolute max. I'd suggest that you do a poll and see how many people are willing to pay what price. You seem to be having trouble getting even a handful of people willing to pay $150. You might find that if the price were $50 you'd have 100 willing buyers.

As a point of comparison:
10 x $150 = $1,500
100 x $50 = $5,000

For an injection molded part, I'll bet you can easily make this price model work. You'd even push your return on investment higher. I really hope so because I'd love to buy one from you.

I appreciate your insight! I am now considering a larger group buy to see what I can do about cost. Please stay tuned!

Have you reached out to any of the vendors, like Axion? I wish I could say I'm surprised at the lack of interest here but after reading the forum for a few months it's not really a big tuner community. Get a shop onboard and they might be able to just buy a bunch of them up front, instead of trying to herd a bunch of forum members together.

First off I'm a performance guy and also own a WRX. My mis-Fit is a daily driver. Maybe because of it's intended use I have little interest in performance parts for the Fit. Only way I'd even consider this item was if it was in the $50-75 range.

Personally, I don't think there's much of a market for it. Most Fit owners seem cheap or of low income. Just look at the typical forum posts. Cheapest tires with lifetime free rotation and balance. Cheapest oil, how overinflated tires provide more MPG............bla, blah blah

yeah, aftermarketabilty state side sucks. Its too bad the Fit isnt as popular to modify like they do in south east asia. And its so rare to meet any fit owners with their rides done up. Some folks dont see our car is worth it enough to spend that kind of money. Better for the rest of us, were a rare breed of Honda on the street. #gotopaytoplay is what I always say. I pay to :vtec: all day ;)

IDK

WRX = Major FUN & fast

FIT = nowhere near as fun. It's just a commuter car, that's it. It's not a performance car, never will be

there's no comparison between the GK5 and the GRB, thats obvious. But i get your point. But on the contrary!! Sometimes you just have to be a little innovative to MAKE IT WORK, if you love the car enough to go the distance, and have time, and the funds, fuck it! Ill pay to be different!! I'd like to eat an FK8 for lunch if I come across one thru my local mountain road someday. Theyd be suprise to know it's K20C'd!! Hehehe. But its always safer to choose the more sensible approach. Just buy a WRX, EVO, GTR, blehh.. To each their own I suppose.

It's not surprising as the Fit is the cheapest model in Honda's lineup. It's geared to the college kid or commuter. I'm the commuter category and I chose the fit for it's outstanding gas mileage, low maintenance costs and low insurance costs. It's very utilitarian and surprisingly fun to drive. Yes I would like better mileage. Yes I would like to spend less on maintenance costs (tire replacement included).

So the choice of my mods are geared to make my daily commute more enjoyable. I'm not fooling myself that an hks axle back gave more power, but it made the car more fun to drive. The progress RSB makes it corner better. I was surprised how much better it is to drive with this ram air intake scoop, the throttle response has improved. It was something I wasn't expecting to be honest.

As far as cost, people have more disposable income than we know. Look at the forum members who have slapped new rims, tires, brake components etc on a brand new car. The HPS, AEM and Weapon-R are more expensive intakes, and looking at the design don't really make sense for an air intake imo .If you have a passion, then money isn't that big of an obstacle to overcome.

I remember being a poor highschool kid, but I managed to save hundreds of dollars to buy the Japanese version of videogame system. I could have waited a few months for it to come to the states, but I wanted to play the latest games. It was something I enjoyed so I made it happen.

A WRX of any generation is still just an economy car with a more powerful motor. It's not a 'performance car'.

I've owned 7 Subarus including four Imprezas (GC, GGs, and GH), one Legacy and two Foresters and have been in nearly every model of most 1990s+ generations except the Tribeca including some highly tuned models running on booze. For comparison, I've also owned two Miatas, including a factory turbo, and would take a Miata over any Subaru if I was driving it for performance reasons. I say this as a long time Subaru enthusiast and Ambassador.

Trying to present an Impreza (of any trim, even the STI) as a 'performance car' or something elevated above other econoboxes is silly. It's an econobox that happens to have power, a huge tuner market, and a cool rally history. Unfortunately that tends to go to people's heads and fluff the image of Subaru beyond something it objectively is.
