Best Tires
 

Time for new tires and wondering what might be the best for the fit. All seasons of course. Snow traction and MPG as well as bang for the buck.

There are so many choices. I went with Nokian WRG4 195/55/16 V All Weathers on stock rims. Went through winter and they are about 85% of the traction of my Michelin X-Ice 3's. Would recommend and would buy again.

My vote is the Yokohama Avid Ascend GT's. Got mine from Discount Tires.

I like the Avid Ascent GTs but be careful because Yokohama has other tires with very similar names. I like them but Consumer Reports didn't love them. They are way quieter than the stock tires.

FYI tire options depend on which model Fit. Fewer options for Sport/EX sizes.

Well I of course tried to replace the Energy savers or the Uniroyal tiger paws that were on my car but it was so hard to find them. I settled for General Altimax RT 45. Not sure when this generation of generals came out but I will let you know how they hold up in the Canadian winter. $775 CAD installed also my tire size is 175 65r 15.

I'm looking for something similar, and considering the Michelin Crossclimate 2 tires.
Does anyone have experience how they do in winter?

Please update on the RT45 (H) weather performance , ride , gas mileage ( rolling resistance ) and handling . We use the RT43 H , would consider these when enough information is available . Enjoy

Have the Crossclimate on a Ridgeline and they're great in the snow, seems like maybe 80% of the traction I get with Blizzaks and still good on wet roads as well.

How does a 175/65 feel in the snow?

Well based on a duration of 500 kilometres which is a weekly commute for me. My fuel economy is 5.6 litres per 100 kilometres. Now that is with dry roads and no heavy traffic. My commute is 80 to 100 kilometres per hour. Down hill into work and uphill going home.

Seems that Michelin stopped making the Crossclimate in 14 inch, so now the search continues.

I didnt think they made the CrossClimate in 14's or 15's

I looked at them for my 2010 Prius (replaced with 2013 Fit last month)
reviews were a 4-5mpg drop (in a car that gets 50mpg)

maybe the bridgestone weather peak tires (same idea as the CrossClimate's, but better milage warranty, and supposedly better performance all around)

I was all prepared to order a set of the General Altimax RT43s but was told that they are no longer available locally, only the RT45. My local car place recommended Yokohama Avid Ascend LX. Consumer Reports has the RT43 and the LX in a recent comparison but not the RT45 (too new). Overall the RT43 was narrowly recommended over the LX. CR says the LXs have a better ride but get a downcheck on ice braking (a consideration where I live with slushy winter roads, and yes, I know about snow times but would really prefer owning just a single set of tires and stay home on snowy days).

I then tried finding reviews about the RT45 but there are few. Those that exist are either rephrasing of what General wrote, or they sound like the kind of phrasing used to describe wines ("nicely weighted steering and a natural buildup of effort with inputs"). The best I could do for a comparison was TireRack. They have the RT45 in a comparison against some BFGoodrichs, and they also have the LXs in a comparison against some very similar (slightly different) BFGoorichs. However, the two BFs do show some different test results so it is hard to get a close enough comparison. Of course the RT45s just came out this summer so nobody knows about winter performance. Reading the few individual and professional reviews don't say anything good or bad about the RT45s. Damning with faint praise. As for individual reviews they too can be all over the map, plus one never knows which ones are true reviews.

Anyway, I'm stuck now. Go with the RT45s and keep y fingers crossed they are as good as the RT43s, or hope the LXs don't leave me sliding all over the place in winter but otherwise give a more comfortable and quieter ride?

My GK5 had Yokohama Avid Ascent GTs (195/55R16) when I got it. They're much better than the stock Firestones, I can't stand those things. As for the Yokohamas, they do well enough in the corners. I'm a pretty spirited driver, so I've tested them in hard acceleration, cornering, and braking. No complaints there. They also hold up very well in the rain, a very important thing in the mid-atlantic where heavy rain is common from spring to fall. Only condition I haven't tested them in is snow and ice. We don't get too much snow here by DC, but we get a lot of black ice. But still a few months before I can test. I have driven on other Yokohamas in the winter with good results, but not on any of their more sport oriented tires. My last daily had Michelin Pilot Sports on it.

Damning with faint praise or just a bland tire that does the job? I had RT43 on my GD3 in 2013. It was fine but I have absolutely zero recollection of anything noteworthy about them.

Bridgestone WeatherPeak tires are what I had the dealer install when we bought a used '19 Fit EX last December. So far I am very happy with these tires.
