New owner... something i didn't know.

I'll welcome myself to fitfreak.com :D.

I bought my fit about a month ago and have been lurking on the forums. I'd post this under a new user forum but I had a question:

This is for the base fit owners (like myself):

I found out that if you unlock the car 2 times w/ a key in succession (I don't have remote locks of course)... that all 4 doors unlock. This is quite handy if you have a small child in your arms and don't wanna unlock the door, open it, and press the switch. I had my old Civic LX for 4 years and didn't know this. I didn't see this in the fit owners manual and my wife said she knew all along.

WTF?!?

My question is:
Is my wife f-ing with me or am I just a dumbass?

(Be honest, I can take it.):D

I can't help with your question, just had to laugh at you needing to be told whether or not you are a dumbass. An old-fashioned expression describing an ignorant hick, or a dumbass, is that "he just fell off the turnip truck".

welcome to the site! well sorta :P

haha yeah the locks are supposed to behave like that. lots of cars are like that. that way if you're in the scary ghettos, just unlock your car and hop in, you don't have to unlock all 4 doors and the hatch so that 4 other guys can jump into your car with you and beat you up lol. also, if you press lock once, all the doors lock. if you press it soon again, your car will honk at you. (or arm the alarm, something like that)

edit: oh dang mine's a sport. so nevermind my answer...i duno if it's the same for us.

I don't think i've ever seen a car that had OEM keyless entry that did not do this.

rushlow Oct 21, 2007 01:28 AM

I have a fit "LX" (pretty much the canadian version of a base fit).. with no keyless entry/alarm... and mine behaves the exact same way, it's normal.
One turn of key = 'driver priority unlock' (unlocks driver door)
Two turns = unlocks all doors + hatch.

Having no keyless entry bugs me... I'm planning to buy myself a nice keyless entry/alarm/remote starter soon as a gift ... to me! yay! :o

Welcome to FitFreak.
I have a base Fit and this phenomenon is normal. This also works with the keyless remote option: Press twice to unlock all, press once to unlock driver only. My sister's 2002 Accord and my mom's 1999 Corolla also does this.

storm88000 Oct 21, 2007 03:21 AM

Don't know if you know since you have the base model, but those of us with the Sport can unlock all the doors by pressing the unlock button on the key fob 2 times in a row as well.

oops wrote this before I saw Blaw's post.

Learn something new everyday.

My wife is loving this, BTW.

Guess that makes it Wife 1 - Husband 0 .... wait a sec....

The Fit is in MY name! YAY!

Husband 1 - Wife 1

She'll probably divorce me and take the Fit anyway. *SIGH*

My Jazz does not do this. I tried today. First locking the car with the remote. All doors locks and alarm set in armed mode. Then open car with remote, all doors opens and alarm is off.
Tried locking car with key, all doors locks, alarm is not armed. Open door with key, all door opens.

Maybe I have to wait some time after locking the car?

I did not try to unlock the car when the alarm is armed. I dont want to wake up the neighbours if it does not work :)
I have a DEFA alarm system installed in the car and it works with the orginal remote key that was a remote for unlocking/locking doors before the alarm was installed.

And I just found out today that I only have ONE (1) key entry :)
It's is about 8 month since I bought the car and I just discovered this today... This is the first car I have seen that does not have a key entry on the passenger side. There is no key entry on the hatch door either, but that is more and more normal with cars today.

Hopefully I will never need the key entry on my car. I have only needed the key entry on my work car once in three years. The battery on the remote key was flat and the reserve remote was at the office and I was home on my way to the office. Had to open the door with key, the alarm started and had to be turned off by turning the key on and off in a special way.

now id just wish they would incorporate the automatic window openning on the third click. my parents have an odessy and when you push the remote open the third time you can open the windows to cool the car as you walk towards it. if you hold it down on the third time it will open the windows all the way. i want that on my fit.

prelude_guy97 Oct 21, 2007 08:13 PM

My old 2002 Civic, my moms 2005 Matrix and my dads 2006 4Runner all do that.

Spule 4 Oct 21, 2007 10:53 PM

Yup, how it works, and if you have keyless, absolutely annoying as hell. Gotta click (or turn the key in your case) twice to chuck the briefcase in the back seat then jump in the car.

This, the cheesey vertical locks, and the lack of an electric lock on the passenger front door are another place where I prefer Toyota.

Because you basically trashed the Fit, it didn't seem like you enjoyed it as much of the rest of us do..

bibi147 Nov 3, 2007 07:51 PM

You know why car manufacturers do that right? So you don't get carjacked from the opposite side. If you click it once only the driver side door opens unlike in other alarm systems where if you click it once all the doors open. It keeps you safe from people jumping through any of your other doors out of your control...

Bullethole Nov 3, 2007 10:00 PM

MY wife's 94 Accord does that. Put in the key and turn and the driver door unlocks. Hold it and they all unlock. Same for the locking up part.
