Considering a Fit and need some insight.

Hello, I am considering trading in my 2004 Acura TL for a new Fit in order to save a lil cash. Has anyone else made a move similar to this one (I'm thinking TL to Fit... probably a big difference)? If so, how did it turn out? I'm a college student and am looking for versatility and fuel economy, though the car must be fun to drive. Also, I've heard several people mention the fuel mileage not being quite as good as expected. Can anyone comment on this? Currently I am averaging 34 mpg on my six hour commute home from school (plenty of city and highway time) and I am hoping the Fit can, at the very least, match that. I appreciate any insight that might aid in my decision.

i have 0 issues with fuel economy.. i get 32-34 when i am constantly reving it high up... if i behave i have gotten close to 40
the Fit is a really fun car and as a fellow college student... the Fit is great!

As far as fuel economy my best tank has probably been 28 mpg but i do all city. It has been very cold snowy since I have had my car. So that definately hasn't been helping. Also I like to drive like a nut alot. I am also a college student and the car suits me well as far as being fun to drive. Fun to do things to and if I need to pack the car full of friends or stuff to move around I can do that as well. If you ask me it is a great car I just haven't seen the 40 mpg alot of people are talking about.

Cool, thanks for the input. How's the comfort on long trips? I haven't been able to find any reviews that address this very well either..

my longest drive was about 3 and a half hours... no comfort issues at all!

I bought my FIT a few weeks ago, and love it. I'm also a college student. You can haul so much stuff in it, the seats are amazing. I have the stock base model, and it's better even base stock than most cars that are more expensive (I work on a car lot, so I know). First week, I drove it like a grandma and got 32 MPG combined city and highway, last two tanks have been 28/29. Those two tanks were after break in so I have been driving faster than normal. Been running late alot in the mornings, so lots of 80+ mph driving. Taken over a 100+ MPH and that def killed the MPG. Drive with a lite foot and you will get the MPG it promises.

Popular Mechanics did a 12xxx review of it and said their best MPG was 38, worst was 27, average was 32. They said the problem with long trips was that the seats are a bit stiff, but that can be preferance. I find no issue with them. The stiff(er/ish) seats are nice for my back. The manual trans gets better MPG.

The suspension and handling are spot on. It drives like a dream. It's so fun to drive. The dash is this beautiful blue neon and the radio display matches.

34 mpg in your TL? Is that a typo? if not you may not be calculating it right. If it is correct the fit should get you over 40 mpg. As someone considering "downgrading" to FIT as well I suggest test driving it to make sure you're comfortale with it.

34 mpg is no typo, I was actually quite surprised myself. That is the average as reported by the computer system with an overall average speed of around 65 mph. I'm certainly hoping the Fit can surpass this figure as that would aid in justifying the change, although the functionality and versatility of the Fit alone are most intriguing as my TL is somewhat lacking in the utility department. Any good basic upgrades that should help boost power and fuel efficiency? Intake, exhaust, etc.?

Im a big time driver and i find myself going to Florida/Georgia atleast once a month from North Carolina and i love it. Depending on what part i go to im usually behind the wheel for 8 hours and being that im 6'2" i dont really have any problems. The seating postition is kinda hard on the taller people but i manage just fine. I average around 37 highway and 30 city but i like rpms otherwise i would do alot better. I actually just bought an 08 auto sport for the wife cause she liked mine so much. I think they are all around great little cars and for the price your not gonna find anything new thats better.
