hypermiling
Here is the Guru:
Beating the EPA - The Why’s and how to Hypermile. - CleanMPG Forums I've allready slowed down and have been practicing these techniques,....Big results |
guys, dont do this. not only is it dangers (people will accidentally
shut off the ignition their steering wheel will lock, brakes wont work well) it hogs up traffic cause you're slowing down everyone while coasting. just get a better job or cut your coffee intake at starbucks, pay your f-king gas and keep stress levels on the road as low as possible. we dont need more stress right now on the roads. hypermiling should be illegal. |

With gas being so high now, the guy who started that website and coined the term has been featured a lot on TV news stories.
I just saw one the other day and he got out of his Accord, pushed it to get it rolling (standing out of the driver door) hops in, starts, and puts it into drive. Come on! There's a point were it becomes OCD and this guy is way beyond that. Granted, there are some safe and easy techniques you can gain and use to boost MPG, but use common sense. Some of the things I have started doing are: Backing into my driveway so I can roll out of the driveway in the morning. I drive 5mph under the speed limit (only when no traffic is behind me) Tires are 3psi over the inside door call out. Coast in gear as early as possible when coming to a stop. Coast in neutral on flat stretches (again, when no traffic is behind) Draft behind semi' (at a normal distance behind it) Light acceleration. Shifting as early as possible. |
slowing down
Look Im not saying follow everything,.... I use to drive 70- 75 everyday. Now, I slowed it down to 55-62......
I wish I could fly like the old days, but $4.40 gas is effecting my budget. I dont do anything illegal here, but I have seen a dramtic difference by: Coastings, less braking and going 60 mph.:wavey: |
A good tip is trying to maintain your momentum as you approch traffic lights that are about to change, going from 2 or 3mph in 2nd gear requires a lot less fuel than going from a dead stop.

I stay away from following too closely (drafting), and I never turn the engine off when coasting. I think that simple hypermiling techniques can quickly become second nature, and they won't cause any safety issues with other drivers. |

Coasting
Yes I mean coasting to a light.
Another thing, its not like I slow down traffic. I set my Cruise to 58-60 mph. get in the right lane. Now that I slowed down ( used to go 70 75 all the time, never less) I see that there are a lot of people who go around the limit. I also time the lights, slowly accelarate. I also believe if i keep this going, my car will age less, So, please stop the hating and see how much fun it is when you are averageing 40+ mpg:cool: |
