Whats your gas mileage with A/C on?
so with the recent heat wave in the northeast i have had to use my A/C for the first time, i have noticed a HUGE mileage decrease, i was getting 36-37mpg before the A/C, my last refill i was at 32.9!!!!!! any one else share in this or is it just me?
A/C on, or off with the windows down, I get between 26-32mpg. Mostly city driving, so that's about right. I also have a lead foot from stoplights to 45-50mph lol I can't granny-foot it to the speed limit like some jerkoffs do. I like to get there asap and stay there as long as possible!
last july when i first purchased my mt sport here in phoenix, arizona, i was gettin about 32mpg. Amd my air was always on. My driving pattern has not changed and as of my last tank, i got approximately 38.5mpg. Again the air is always on. In early may when the air wasn't on i got about the same 38mpg. I'm impressed.
just drove up to vegas this past weekend, and my first tank gave me 40.2 mpg. A/C on (turned off for a couple of hilly passes), averaging about 65-72 mph. Not bad, eh?
I'm sure I could've done better, but people were haulin' ass on the I-15! I think ambient temps were at about 92 deg, and I had all 4 tires at 41psi, with 2 other passengers.

Our first two tanks netted 35.67 and 34 MPG. My wife's last tank since starting to use the AC all the time was 31.2 MPG. I'm sure the AC had a part to play in that drop, but we're still happy with anything over 30 MPG.

we have gotten this too. but unlike our west coast friends, we get the HUMIDITY.
I was averaging 33-34 mpg in mostly highway with light ac, but now that its gotten as hot as it has, its dropped to around 30-32. i can't complain though, i'm still averaging at worst 3 mpg more than i was in my rabbit with no a/c on.
Running with A/C in New Mexico
but unlike our west coast friends, we get the HUMIDITY

Here in New Mexico, the air is dry, and normally I am driving at high altitude as well. The lowest I go is 5000 ft, and the highest is 9800. The good news is that in the morning it is usually cool, and I do not need A/C. But in the afternoon I often do.
Recently, on a trip to the Rio Grande for kayaking, with the kayak on the roof rack.....and using A/C only on the way home...we got 43.55 mpg. Although that was only over 170 miles....it is still quite good. We are running our tires at 40 psi, and I firmly (no pun here) believe that is making a huge diff.

It does eat into your gas, running the A/C in the little Fit. But hey, you can run the air and still get around 30? That's reason enough to keep running the air in my opinion. I will sacrifice 10% of my fuel economy to stay comfy. Not that it's right or wrong, just a choice that I am OK with.
Report!
A couple of weeks ago I drove from Chesapeake Va. to Wash. D.C. and back on one tank of fuel. A 419.3 mile round trip. Route taken was hwys. 464 to 664 to 64 to 95 to 301. A drivers dream of varied types of Hwy...Im talking about the wide open HOV lane action. Slow people actually in the right lane...Tree lined long descents on smooth roads and nice gradual curves. The first leg I used the AC....going about 65 to 80 mph. I love it when I cruise at 70 mph @ 2500 rpm. I had to turn the AC off a couple of times, because it got to cool. It was like 95% pure hwy driving.... On the way back I drove conservatively with my speed down low... max 65 and used the AC sparingly. When I got to the pump I filled up on at the start of the trip ....I was on fumes....Hoshi took 10.1 gals. one click. What a beautiful car.
It has been hot as hell these last 2 weeks here in NC.
I've also noticed a drop because I replaced my tires with a slightly taller tire than the stock Dunlops. (It affects the speedometer by 4.2%)
Lifetime Average MPG (2+ years, 43K miles): 37.47 MPG
1 month ago (before heat wave & new tires): 38.8 MPG average
Now with new tires & constant a/c: 36.2 MPG
I compensate for the new tires in in my calculation because now my wheel circumference is bigger and the odometer/tripmeter reads lower than reality.
