Walmart oil change
 

hey everyone, i went over to walmart for an oil change...first time getting a change done at walmart i might add. after coughing up $30 bucks i checked my oil meter and it still read 30%, which was the same as i came in with.

do they not know how to reset it? or did i just get ripped off? thanks.

they probably dont know how to reset it. i think you just have to hold it in for a few seconds...not sure you can find it in the manual how to reset the meter. they probably just didnt wanna take the effort to read the book and find out or didnt feel comfortable lookin around your car for the manual. my buddy did my car and i guess he had no problem goin through my glove box to find it :D

They probably didn't know you car had a maintenance minder. Check the dipstick and see if it looks like fresh oil, if so, reset the "oil meter" yourself.
Select oil life, hold button for 15-20sec, let go, hold for 10 more sec, let go. Should be back at 100%.

lol wal-mart does oil changes now? You can get it done at the dealer for a few dollers more.

walmart has done oil changes for years. just not at all of their locations. ive never took any of my cars to em, but i have some friends who have in the past.

Ahh, must be in those Super Wal-Marts. We don't have any up here but I visited a couple when I was down in Florida and a few other states down south during a road trip.

Wal-mart is bankrupting our country by underpaying thier staff and undercutting the competition by mass buying generic products :(

Every once in a while when I need something and Wal-mart is the only 24 hour place that might have it... they never have what I am looking for because it is usually something not totally generic and just a tiny bit specialized.

Then they drive the specialty stores around it out of business so I end up having to drive half way accross town to somewhere where thier infectious ways havn't ruined everything yet.

Don't even get me started on the people that shop there regularly. It makes me want to vomit, big gross slobs with a dozen children they are too fat to run after. The floors are covered with a thin layer of slime, I worry about getting a fungal infection whenver I am near that place. Then the lineups that usually extend right into the clothing section... f-ck I hate that place :mad:

Sorry, nothing good ever comes from Wal-Mart. Not even oil changes, would keep my car the hell away from the 12 year old kids they have working in those shops...

....ps sorry if anybody works there. Not a personal attack, I just think the place will be the eventual downfall of society as they soak up every dollar that is left in the communities they ruin.

The savings don't seem too much... I get mine done at my Honda dealer for like $36 after tax. If wal-mart has convinced you that saving $6 every 3 or 4 months will better your life like they advertise on their commercials then I feel sorry.

My dealership charges only $31.95 for the oil change using Honda OEM synthetic blend oil. Never go to Wally World for an oil change for a car still under warranty! You should wait until you are under 20% then go to the dealership and get a tech under the hood instead of some 17 year old!

I believe the owners' manual does tell how to reset the maintenance minder, it's a combination of key position, etc. At least I know it does on the Accord, the last one I sold I had to look it up for the customer.

if you get a VIP membership (free) at Super Autobacs, they will change your oil for under $20.00 with some decent oil.
i'm nearly due for my first oil change, but i will be doing it myself.

There's a giant used car dealership out here in CT that's been advertising $11.88 for oil changes with up to 5 quarts. Don't know what kind of oil they were using though.

for that low of price it's probably cheap-o 7-11 style recycled oil or something.

yeah its probably cheap recycled oil...i dont take my car to places that do massive oil changes...i take it to a repair shop a friend works at and supply all my own stuff for it. had too many bad expierences with other cars and those quick oil places. their quality of work is normally crap too.

$30? my local jiffylube can do it for $25 with tax with a coupon... :confused:

not that i trust them. for $25, i'd just do my oil change and use synthetic. :p

my dealer does oil changes for $15.95 (they regularly send coupons for that price).

damn... that's the cheapest ive heard so far from a dealership! :wavey:

other than the free oil changes... but im sure they include that in
the price of the car when you buy it. :rolleyes:

Pull the tip stick out and see what the oil looks like on a piece of white paper towel. It should be light if the did the work.
$30 seems high, but I do my own.
Bought 12 OEM Honda Filter on ebay for <$4/ and get my oil, all four qts for $3/ take maybe 30 min

I don't trust the dealerships any more than I trust WalMart to do my oil changes. To the OP: Read the owner's manual FTW.

You should only go into a Walmart if it's 3:00 AM and you desperately need some plumbing supplies because a pipe broke etc. (no other options). The emergency rural oil change DOES qualify. Other than that Walmart should die!
