anybody swapped Sport Fit 16" wheels for 15" Base model's?

After driving both the Sport and Base Fit, I was hoping for a softer ride. It seemed to me that the Base had a slightly softer ride which I attribute to the 15" wheels with higher sidewalls.

The only problem is that I hate to go without Cruise Control. If I could get the Base model with Cruise Control this would solve my problem (anybody know if this is possible--the dealership indicated it wasn't).

If I get the Sport, is swapping out the 16" wheels for 15" steels with higher sidewalls a good move to get a softer ride?

If you do swap out the alloys for the steelies, you'll be slower and possibly less fuel efficient. Steel is nearly three times as dense as aluminum =\

It probably wouldn't be worth it, IMHO. The Fit is known to have a somewhat bumpy ride as is.

Thanks for comments. Sounds like the bumpy ride has more to do with the suspension than with the wheels/tires per se?

Firebat666 Oct 10, 2008 09:38 AM

yes the stiff ride is the suspension, not too much you can do, some people like my self like the stiff ride, it provides more interface with the car, soft cars handle like boats!

Just underinflate your tires. You will get a reduced gas mileage but you will still have cruise control with a Sport package. at 25 psi, the ride is nice and quiet, and soft. The mileage sucks, but if you want a soft ride, there it is.

Other than that, you might look at a Camry.

That's not good advice. Underinflation not only increases fuel consumption, it causes premature tire wear, overheating, and poor handling among other things.

I know that, but the OP started a thread with a silly question in the first place. I told him he'd get worse gas mileage if he under-inflated but that's no more silly than putting base-package wheels on a Sport...he seems quite concerned with the softness of the ride. I think he shouldn't have a Fit in the first place. Ford Crown Vics have a nice soft ride.

I was being sardonic.

Ah, my sardonicism detector doesn't work too well at 2:00 AM. :)

y not just get aftermarket wheels that r 15" or buy a set of 15" alloys from an 07/08. But make sure to cehck what offset u need n what not.

It's off-duty then. The union negotiated the hours years ago - sardonicism only works from 9-5. :) ;)

Irony is still working at 2 a.m. though....

Take it up a notch to full-fledged smart-assism, it works 24/7. I know.;)

You're not suggesting that any freaks are dumbasses, are you?? :) Hey, AFAIK, no one here has registered Mickey Mouse to vote in the upcoming Presidential election! AFAIK, anyway...

I may be mistaken...but doesn't the GD3 base model come with 14's and the sport come with 15's? Too lazy to run outside and check :rotfl:
