Flash...Ford fights Fit
Saw a post on www.edmunds.com this morning. Ford, with help from Mazda, is developing a Fit fighter, to come out in the next few years. Car is to be based on the Mazda 2 platform - they will also use this platform for the European Ford Fiesta. We'll see what happens with this one, but Ford needs to develop some serious muscle if they want to finish off the Fit.

Actually, Ford did confirm four months ago they were working on a next-generation B-segment car that will sold in the USA. Developed in cooperation with Mazda, the new car will likely be unveiled as early as NAIAS in January 2007 and we might see it on sale at Ford dealerships by late Spring 2007 as a 2008 model.
Besides being the new Ford Fiesta (which will be built at Ford plants worldwide), it will also be the basis for the next-generation Mazda2, also. |
this will be interesting. along with all of the other sub compact models on the market too

This should be the last thing Ford should worry about. The company as a whole is in a big financial hole. Who knows if Ford will be around by the time this model is released to the NA market.

Grreeaat.
Great.
Ford is now going to build a new class of cars continuing a tradition of mediocrity and shoddy workmanship. Some might say my comments are un-American but I disagree. I just don't like investing in unimaginative steel boxes that have a gambler's chance at reaching 50,000 miles. I agree. Ford's got bigger issues it needs to address. If 'fit' is an apt moniker reflecting Honda's efficiency and stylish modern identity maybe Ford should name their car after their perceived public identity. Unfortunately I think 'bloated clueless inefficient morons' would fit on the back of any car. |
