Fuel Door Locked?

OK, for those who have the Fit in Canada, I need this question answered, please...

Is the fuel door locked? Can anyone from the outside just pop it open?

Thanks...

fitforlife 04-05-2006 01:33 AM

You can open the fuel filler door from the outside. It is disappointing that they can't be locked. I guess we have to resort to the lockable cap.

yeah, take a look at the college hills honda accessories. you'll see the locking gas cap....

Pretty cheap insurance if you live in a rough neighborhood.

I don't think I've ever had anyone steal gas. I can't imagine stealing gas. This isn't Road Warrior.

I'll be buying a locking gas cap just in case.

They do lock in other countries. I find it hard to believe Honda would remove the feature in America.

I haven't gotten my car yet, so can't tell you, but I thought it locked with the door locks????

syfo 04-05-2006 03:33 AM

Well, it's really weird that the USA Fit doesn't have that feature, mine is from Mexico and it does have it

Daņiel 04-05-2006 09:43 AM

The gas cap is 100% open for business.

Can anyone take a pic of what the lock on the fuel cover looks like, and may be the release mechanism within the car?

Is it just a simple cable release?

thanks

Is yours a Sport, DX or LX model?

That's what I was thinking too. Why would US Honda spend money to get rid of a feature thats present on every other Fit/Jazz destined for other markets.

I saw the locking gas cap option on collegehills, but I think it sucks having to carry another key just to open the gas cap!

Perhaps the remote-release door on the Jazz is part of the security system of the Sport, and thus not available on the Base. Anybody have a NADM Sport to verify that the door is lockable?

JDMGD3 04-05-2006 11:10 AM

I saw the car a few days ago at a show here locally and that was actually one of the things I looked at. The door has no lock, neither does the cap so its completely open to whomever wants to gain access to it. The only viable option is a lockable cap which isnt that big of a pain, just attach the key to your car's keyring.

I have the LX

kennyt 04-05-2006 11:46 AM

can anyone confirm on the Sport model?

b17gsr 04-05-2006 11:54 AM

The Sport I looked at this morning didn't seem to have anything to lock the gas door. As if, the Civic had this feature in the 1980s!!!!

f64 04-05-2006 12:39 PM

Doesn't every new Honda lock? I don't know, maybe the Element doesn't if I remember correctly.

Then just get a clip for your belt to attach that big key ring with all those keys just like the super has - sounds awesome. :D

Cargo pants are becoming essential these days. (sigh)

I guess the drivers side pocket would be a great place to put the fuel cap lock key if you dont want to keep it with your other keys.
