Where's the "Made in Japan" sticker?

My 1991 CRX Si has a "Made in Japan" sticker in the engine bay.

I looked all over and I can't find one on the Fit's engine bay, although I realize you can just confirm by looking at the VIN (it should start with a "J"). I guess things have changed in 15 years.

If you look at the window sticker at the dealership under “Where built.”, it says “JAPAN 100%”. It also has the port of entry and other interesting info. On the car it-self, I have never looked. I would think in todays world Honda wants people to think they support the American living- which they do. They distance themselves from Japan in order to be seen as an American company. The people who care where its built will find the information. For most Americans they will assume it is built in one of the American plants and go on with their life.

Don't think the country of manufacture will be explicitly advertised unless it's the country it's being sold in. Any car company will likely try to appeal to American buyers with a 100% made in USA sticker if it's true

If you look in the driver door jam towards the bottom, there is a sticker there that is required on all vehicles sold in the US. It states the month and year the car was built and where it was built along with the legal statements required by law.

VIN number identifies country of manufacture. In Australia no other country of origin identification is required. The likes of the German manufacturers wouldn't like everyone to know that their Mercs, VW and BMWs where coming from South Africa and the US instead of Europe let alone Germany and the case of VW Mainland China also.

In the US (and I think worldwide) the Fit's VIN says it all, right at the base of the driver's side of the windshield: by starting with a "J" it means assembled in Japan.

I dont know if the VIN number issued to US cars is the exact same one applied to every other market of the world but yes if a US car's VIN begins with a J then it was built in Japan.

all the japanese made car vin number must be start with (J), i knew the first and half year fit are all made in japan, after will made in US.:)

biebieifit Apr 30, 2006 12:21 AM

I don't think its a big deal. I didn't even know the new civics were mainly american built (20% japanese) till i started looking at the stickers during shopping.

i'm glad fit is made in japan. now i know why fit only costs slightly less (than drastically less) than a civic.

if the vin begins with a 2, where is that?
