Waxing and Paint Chipping

I was reading about the thin paint / paint chipping problem... Would this be somewhat reduced if one were to keep the body nicely waxed with a few good coats regularly?

Please be nice if this is a really dumb question - I don't know a lot about car body paint.

I've had my fit about 10 days now. I bought the car on a thursday, waxed it..then took it on a trip to the beach. When I got back i noticed a chip in the bumper paint likely from a rock. So not sure if the wax theory holds.

nope. just a bra

Wax is not armour against rocks.

Clear bra (best) or regular bra (ugly) are about the only 'insurance' you can get. A bug deflector can protect the leading edge of your hood, but that's about it.

Clear bras look great and soak a lot of damage. There are dings in the clear bra on my IS350 that would have done horrid damage to the paint had it hit. The only issue is, of course, cost!

What happens to clear bras once they start to get old? I would think they would start to peel and bubble up.

How much would it cost to do the whole car and pay someone to do it professionally?

Call shops around your area to get quotes, clear bra's are definately good and if they are good quality they can last a long time. Although after a while I think they start to get yellowish, but like I said they should last a pretty long time.

Wax can't stop small road debris going at 75+mph from chipping the paint.

You can get the bra replaced if it's still under warranty.

Costs vary by local markets. I got my front for $700. It was on par with the other installers I called.

My advice is to just get it on high impact areas. I drive daily on freeways with trucks going 65+mph. So I know front is a must lest I want a massive collection of chips. I'm going to personally do the back bumper too once I get the time since I parallel park in nyc once in a while. No matter what, the car will get scratched/chipped/dented.
