How do you make sure paint/fabric sealant has been applied?

I bought a 2009 base FIT with AT. Dealer had mentioned that paint sealant and fabric sealant were applied to my car. Is there anyway to make sure sealant has been applied other than relying on dealers word?

Ask the dealer to prove it's been applied. If they can't then ask for a refund.

Hope you didn't pay extra for that. Waste of money. To test the paint sealant, spray with a hose. Water should bead up. Basically just a polymer "wax" that they applied. As for fabric sealant, don't know. Try pouring some water on your seats and see if they don't soak into the fabric.

yah, you can buy scotch fabricguard sprays at most fabric and furniture places that are virtually the same thing.

water should bead as well (or atleast resist from soaking into
the seat) when you spray water on the seat.

the other rip-off dealers try to sell is 'etching VIN#'s on glass.' LOL :D hahaha.

A while back my parents were purchasing a vehicle. I think they had agreed to a price or whatever, or maybe they just looked at the sticker, or whatever...

when it got around time to do the paperwork... of course additional fees are added... and everything... and there is this charge for "undercoating" or something like that...

My dad quite matter of factly said.. "we don't want that, we didn't ask for it, remove it.."

Well of course, they couldn't.. (assuming it indeed had been applied..)

But they did remove the charge.

They menitoned the car had the extras ( $495 for paint sealant and $495 for fabric sealant) and during negotiations they dropped the extra charges. That must be one of their techniques. I tested by spraying a little bit of water and it didn't bead out completely - some of it got absorbed. When I go to get the plates, I will ask them to prove it to me that the coating was applied. My guess is they will say it was applied and there is nothing to prove.

My opinion is that they have those fees/extras fully expecting to have to drop them, but they make a sweet profit on the people who fall for it.

It is basically a coat of wax and a spray-down with scotch guard.
