What is the different between Fit in California and Fit in the other 49 states?

California has stricter emissions controls that the US Federal standard. Since it is such a big market, most if not all new cars pass California emission control standars wherever they are sold, so there is nothing different about the California Fit.

Fit's emission rating is: "Emissions levels are rated as Low Emissions Vehicle 2 (LEV-2) by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Tier 2 / Bin 5 by the Federal government." http://world.honda.com/news/2006/4060108Fit/

california emissions are much tougher. Lots of cars used to sell 49 state vehicles and California-only models. Generally they were 5-10hp weaker but passed the sniffer. Now days they build them for 50 state from the get-go...usually.

True. A slightly different tune, extra anti-emission bits on the car, like EGR for instance. In extreme cases, a different cam profile. (less lift and or longer duration on intake; longer duration on exhaust side to partially redraw the exhaust gases back in to the combustion chamber for reburn; etc.) If the "original" set-up doesn't meet Cali's specs.

I know on my motorcycle it has an air injection system for the exhaust. Injecting air into the hot exhaust gas to ignite the remaining unburnt hydrocarbons on decel. Gives it that distinct popping noise. There's all sorts of tricks.

The warranty on certain parts of the California Emission Control System (ECS)
is different than the Federal ECS warranty. The manufacturer has to warranty
that the vehicle pass the California smog test for a long period of time and those
emission parts which California has identified must carry a longer warranty. Upshot,
manufacturers must stand behind their smog polluting machines for a long period of time
if they want to do business/sell in California. They can't just dump these global
warming devices here .... some other states may not care, but most Californians clearly do.

How about the bumpers these days? Are they 5MPH or 2.5MPH? I remember it used to ber 5MPH,
but then auto makers complained that it was too costly/heavy/worse gas mileage to do so, 2.5 was back. Is it still
2.5 MPH?
