What's your usual seat configuration..?

Since it's mostly just me and my lady, we usually ride around with the rear seat backs down flat. I have a Home Depot rubber mat back there that I unroll to cover the floor, so it's much like having a mini pickup with a box-covered bed, only better! :vtec:

If Dreamer the Poodle is riding with us tho I'll usually put a rear seat and it's bottom completely up; it gives her a cubby, and a nice step in-and-out of the car..!

Only car onna road with interior options as nice! (-I wonder if there's ever been any cars in the past as cool as this inside?)

My 97 Odyssey (1st gen) was a bigger version of the fit. 3rd row seat disappeared into the floor. I opted for the LX with the middle row bench seat. Not only did it seat an extra person but it folded up flat against the front seats giving me room to fit several coffins. Or you could lay the middle and last row seats flat and make a double bed. And it got 22mpg around town. I loved that car but after 225K it was getting expensive to keep in perfect running order.

The Fit was the only reasonable replacement.

In answer to your question, the seats stay in their full upright and locked positions, ready for takeoff.

Unless I'm running to go grab lunch for me and co-workers, the seats stay upright with the seat cushions down. When I do go get lunch rather than put it in the passengers foorwell I fold the driver's side passenger seat up and put it down there. I like that there's this little nook I can shove bags of food into and it doesn't tip. And having ten cupholders is just awesome when I'm stuck with a starbucks run.

90% of the time I drive around with all the seats up. I always have some loose cargo at the back - usually a bag for additional car tools and my work backpack - so the back seats are up to prevent stuff from rolling around.

Haven't been able to find a GD-specific cargo net here. Heheheh

Normal configuration. I have my kiddies in the back far more often than any item bulky enough to fold the seats down, and Folding the seats down is a bit of an annoyance. You can't just pull the lever and flip them down- they hang on the front seatbacks. the front seats have to be adjusted forward before the rear ones can fold flat.

I run with rear seats in passenger mode unless I have a band gig, then I fold the rear seats into "utility mode" to carry guitars, amps, etc.

When empty, I prefer the rear seats in place, as the seat backs seem to block some of the road noise from the rear wheels.

GD3_Wagoon Jan 13, 2010 10:23 AM

i'm always in cargo mode. it gives me a better view of my recently acquired x-bar setup :D

You must have an 08 or earlier? 'Cause on the 09-10 thas exactly what you can do; just pull the lever and flip them down. -They never catch on the front seat backs, and I have my driver's seat all the way back too..!( -So I guess all that extra body room in the later models is good for something, eh?) :D

Also on my '10 the front passenger seat folds all the way back too... Yesterday I had to carry an 80"L x 10"W folding door, so my lady sat in the left seat behind me while I put the right rear seat next to her down, and then folded the right front seat backwards on top of it... The door fit in there with plenty of room to spare!

I think it's more down to the design of the seats themselves than anything else. The GEs have redesigned headrests to facilitate folding the rear seats down without having to move the front seats forward, as on the GDs.

On my GD, I changed my front seats to Recaros on BRIDE rails, so I have to physically take out the rear headrests if I want to fold the rear seats. The seats are an inch lower than stock, so there's no longer enough clearance for the rear headrests to fit underneath the front seats.

Nope, 2010. Maybe you guys don't have the front seat all the way back, or if you do, the seatback is bolt upright. I have to slide each front seat forward a couple of clicks, fold the seats down, and then slide them back again.

I should add that once the seats are flat, I can slide the front seat all the way back again with no problem. I should also add that I'm 6'1 with long legs, so for me, the seat is always at the far end of its track, leaned back a bit, and still it felt a bit tight in legroom until I remounted the accelerator for more right leg space.

Wow, I don't understand that pic at all? Do the 2010 Fits then have different kinds of seats in them? Because on mine (Base model) the driver's seat will in no way extend so far back that there remains no passenger leg room... There always appears to be about a foot wide space between front and back seats, even with my driver's seat alla way back and the upper seat-back leaned back a few notches! And my rear seats fold down forward completely flat in that setup, even with their head restraints still on them! -Sheeesh, it actually looks like my 2010 Base has a different interior than yours?

Driver seat - Upright. A little futher back from the locked position. Distance is in racing position. My wrist can sit on top of the steering wheel.

Passenger seat - Sits further back from my position intended for comfort for the passenger. Distance is futher back from my position as well

Rear seats - Usually in the upright position with the headrests down.

It does seem he's violated the Fit laws of physics. fitics?

Because the rear seat is partially folded forward, the seat cushion is moved forward. He's reclined the driver seatback far enough to interfere with the rear seat. shrug. Must have long arms.

I suspect you prolly only have to move the upper seat-back position upright a bit more to get your rears flat, but shouldn't hafta slide the seat forward? Because here's mine, one pic with the rear seat up, another with it down. In both instances the driver's seat is slid as far back as it will go on its tracks! Only difference I can see is that my upper seat-back may not be leaned quite as far back as yours..?

YouTube - Folding seats

I slide the seat rather than leaning it forward because it's easier to just slide the seat all the way back again than to adjust the seatback to it's ideal position again.

As you can see, even with the seat all the way back, the space is just BARELY enough for my legs. When wearing thicker soled shoes or boots, it's a bit tighter.

(I do notice in that picture that with my foot resting on the gas pedal, my left foot is slightly further back than my right. Now, the opposite is true, which is why remounting the accelerator has made it so much more comfortable. My right leg is straighter, and doesn't hit the transmission selector lever)

So far I've only driven around with everything upright. I haven't had occasion to fold the rear seats down for any reason yet. (Well, other than to show off how they work hehe.) However I did make a huge shopping trip that made me really glad I have a hatchback now! There's a lot more trunk space when you can stack things vertically and not have to worry about giant trunk hinges crushing your stuff when you close the lid. I'm going to be making a Costco run soon so maybe soon the back seats will get folded down.

I've had my back seats out since 2kmiles. at about 7600 right now. So much room without them!

Cat Jan 15, 2010 06:58 PM

My drivers seat is all the way back - found it the most comfortable position. My back seats are always up until I hit Wal-Mart for the weekly shopping then the seat behind the passenger seat is always lying flat to allow room for my crushable groceries. I often time wish the Fit came in a two door option -then I would roll with the back seats flat 24/7.

I'd love a twodoor with the third half-door like the Mini Clubman - still good access to the rear seat, but the longer front doors mean that I wouldn't have the B-pillar rift next to my head. I had a Civic coupe at one point, and lived being able to see directly to the side without having to lean forward.
