GD vs GE - Which handles better?

Which generation Fit has better handling? I havent' seen any articles comparing GD to GE. If you were to pit the GD vs GE in a slalom or race track driven by drivers with equal skill, which car will win the race? I know that the GE is quicker and has more horsepower, but which car is better overall?

GD for handling due to wheelbase and lighter. GE for HP.

GD is sexier doing it too :p

SO GD FTW>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

i've had an '08 gd, and now a '10 ge, but i don't consider either being able to impress anybody.

yea, the ge does have a couple more hp, but it's fatter.

i'd say a tie :p :vtec:

Or... unloaded question... :D I haven't driven the GE so no basis for comparison here but just don't get the point. Maybe just doesn't apply to me (or don't care).

Driven both, on several occasions.

Stock for stock, GD is the superior drivers car.

Knownlimits 10-22-2011 07:49 AM

I have driven both and I own a 2012 GE.. I would say they are very similar… practically a Tie as for as driving pleasure is concerned, with the exception that I dont remember the rev hang being as noticeable/annoying on the GD but i havent owned one so i cant say for sure. iirc the GD doesnt have DBW (drive by wire) so it should not be an issue

I haven't driven a GE but my wife tested one at a dealer ship and didn't like it.. She said ti was nice but didn't feel right.. A little later that day she bought a new Forester saying it felt more stable than the new Fit though the steering wasn't as quick. I had a hard time believing how well she stayed with me around curves on the way home in that thing.

ehhh who cares if the GE has more HP... lets clear up on some things on why the GE can handle better then GD

I've always heard it was a myth that a firmer ride signified handling.. and it also depends on location, because USDM GE's barely weighs more... and even if that small weight makes a difference don't forget that the JDM GE is actually lighter compared to the previous generation fit.

and from the fit's Executive engineer himself.. he said

The chassis was re-engineered, with structural rigidity increased by 164 percent.
"We are very aware that the predecessor was a little firm, so we spent a lot of time fixing that. But we believe we've got it just right now."
—Hitomi
The Fit now features improved ride and handling.
164% increase in rigidity over the previous generation fit... i doubt a a GD with upgraded anti-roll bars front and rear, strut tower bars, subframe braces, and even a roll cage would give it that much of an increase in rigidity.

and for looks... thats completely personal preference.. but we can't let the GE be a winner in all categories.. so i'll be fair and i'll give you this one.. even though i personally I think the GE looks better then GD ;)

Having driven both....GD > GE.

kenchan 10-22-2011 12:59 PM

ive owned both and i think the GD is superior as far as performance. but the GE has much more convenience stuff and while not really 'refined' it is more of a complete car for the regular user. if one's buying a fit today, get the GE.

If over 8 years, Honda can't make a suspension design that is more capable than its predecessor, coupled with the fact that weight was not increased that much, then that would not be very impressive. With mods (which the GE does not have many available to it) it should edge out the GD. I've never driver the GD, but there is no doubt it's more of a drivers car, and with its aftermarket and slightly lower weight, is probably the easiest to make faster in the corners.

Over time Honda likes to make things worse lol.

Example:

88-00 Civics/Integras had a vastly superior suspension setup to that of any new Honda/Acura.

hayden 10-22-2011 01:45 PM

Well, that's true. Still, the design is basically the same between the two Fits, and there is a lot of room to tweak the parameters. The GE seems to get pretty well planted and predictable, like a modern car should. It's not exactly a "handful" :vtec: the way an older car is, but it's pretty close.

I really DO fear for the next generation Fit if Honda doesn't get their ish together. I feel like we own gems.

Texas Coyote 10-22-2011 01:55 PM

It looks to me like the aftermarket is doing a good job of making chassis braces and coil over kits available for the GE cars.. In have looked at some stuff I'd like in both of these products and found that higher quality things were available for the GE but not the GD... There is also more models of aero body parts being made all of the time for GEs while the stuff for GDs have been around 5 years for USDM and longer for JDM.....I'd like to be able to buy the stuff for a JDM bumper set conversion from a second hand source from overseas....

GAFIT 10-22-2011 02:06 PM

I have driven both. IMHO, the GD handles better, but the GE rides smoother and drives nicer. The GD is more an enthusiasts car to me.

Texas Coyote 10-22-2011 02:12 PM

If I was going to be in the market for a new car a new Fit with boost, more leg room by way of a more adjustable drivers seat and tilt/telescoping wheel and otherwise built like the JDM cars would be very tempting.

ThEvil0nE 10-26-2011 06:54 PM

GF is better than GD and GE combined.

blassty 10-26-2011 07:16 PM

LoL, loaded question indeed. I agree I think the GF 'rides' better. ;-)

TeeZeeMee 11-17-2011 10:39 AM

I've been wondering this same question my self as I'm about to get a fit and want to tweek it a bit
