Fit on a U-haul trailer?

Hello,

I'm strongly considering purchasing a Fit that's out-of-town. I'd need to trailer it back on a U-Haul car trailer (not a dolly but actual trailer). Has anyone done this before? I searched around but only found Fits *towing* U-hauls.

I'm concerned that I'd run into a size-related problem. I used a U-haul trailer last year, but it was for a beefy Crown Vic. Everything on the trailer seemed equally beefy. I don't know if the Fit's track, fairings, or ? would interfere with any of the trailer's hardware. I plan on bringing several slabs of wood to add to the ramps to aide in clearance issues during loading. I'll try to put the trailer's axle in a ditch, too.

Thanks!

You're over thinking it.

Maybe the wood would help, but I don't recommend the "in the ditch" approach. It'll just make things harder than necessary (tilt and when it comes time to move).

edit: My 2nd Gen Fit got pulled up onto a flatbed tow truck the other day... no issue with clearance, despite being lowered on Swifts.

I've been known to do that!
Thanks for the response; will find something else to worry about now.

I assume this is the trailer you plan to usee:

I have to take the bumper off to get up the ramps cause its super low. But I think a normal height car will be fine.

Much appreciated!

I've towed a super low '77 Porsche 930 Turbo on a Uhaul flatbed auto hauler. That car required several long pieces of 2X8 built up in layers to get it on the trailer, a stock height Fit should be fine, just go slow and use a spotter. Do measure the height of the front wheel stops though, I had to use a chunk of 2X8 flat, in front of the stop to keep the front spoiler on the 930 from hitting the stop.

Mission Accomplished!

Done! No problems, no front spoiler clearance issues at ramps or wheel stops. Doors are too low to open while on trailer, even when trailer fender is flipped out of the way - had to exit through hatch.

Car is now in the driveway! Thanks for the trailer advice, everyone!
