Forced road trip (long-ish post)

My father lives in Arkansas (I'm in Massachusetts) and my father is turning 75 in April. Well, my 4 brothers and sisters and I have been trying to throw a surprise birthday party for him but being that we all live in different states with some having children in school, having it in April simply wasn't possible.

We then had the idea that since he is going to Oregon in June for his nephew's college graduation, we'll have the surprise party over there - with 40 other guests as well who are willing to make the weekend trip. So all is well.

BUT!

Since he thinks that nobody is doing anything for his birthday, he decided to throw his own impromptu party in Arkansas and is asking all us kids to go!

I'm already spending ~$6,000 +/- for the Oregon trip/party but I would not survive April-June with my father thinking that we didn't plan anything and being that I don't have any more spare cash, this means......

ROAD TRIP!!!!

I've driven the Fit to NY and Cape Cod but no "real" long trips so this will be a true first for the Fit and being that I will be going solo, I'm expecting to drive from Massachusetts to Arkansas on roughly 4 tanks. I'm ready to test her! :)

Based on my road trip experiences, I'd guess 3 and a half tanks each way, going solo or not.

Should be a nice trip—have fun and keep safe! If you've got some extra time, you can take Skyline Drive (through Shenandoah National Park) and/or the Blue Ridge Parkway.

~3000 miles round trip that's a healthy road trip for sure. Goodluck, godspeed, have fun. The trip is half the fun anyway :o

Done that...on a motorcycle. I was in the Navy stationed in Norfolk, VA and rode home after my father lost his house to a fire (he rebuilt). Here I am getting ready to ride back to VA.

You'll get between 280-330 per tank depending upon your driving. I drove from Vancouver BC to Orlando FL. It was quite the drive, but the fit handled it like a champ.

I have no worries about the Fit performing flawlessly on a ~3,000 round trip road trip. After all it's a Honda.

The reason I'm excited about the trip is being that I love to drive and will not be traveling with my son or diabetic wife this time.... so everything will be MY way! My last solo road trip was in 1994 when I drove non-stop from Milwaukee to MA.

I'm down to 3 days and a wake up for my 3,000 mile trip!

1 day and a wake up left! :ohnoes::thumbups::vtec:

Fit is slowly getting packed for our solo journey. ~10 hours to go and it'll be just the two of us sharing a romantic venture!
