Looking at getting in to a Fit
 
Good evening!

I'm looking at buying/leasing a Fit. I'm currently in a Chevy Spark, because when I needed to buy a car, there were not fit's available. (The in-between year, with no used in the area)

Now my question for all of you lovely people.
Is a 2013 Sport edition worth the $15k it's listed at, or should I aim for leasing a new one?

What are the positives for the 2016 vs the 2013? Any major engine problems that are in either that I should worry about? Major recalls? Issues you guys are having? (You can guess why I'm jumping ship from my Spark...)

I'm thrilled to have grabbed a second gen. I'd probably be fine with a third, but they're pricier.

Probably the only positive would be its proven to be very very reliable, the engine isn't direct injected and makes a little less power but is basically bulletproof.. The 3rd gen does most everything slightly better but reliability has fell a bit, but that's to be expected with a total redesign and a new DI motor.

third is best if you have cash for it

The third gen has much less headroom in the front but you could get a sunroof (no sunroofs in second gen). The interior has a bit more quality feel to it in the third gen.

In my opinion, the third gen is NOT at all attractive.

Also, They are made in mexico and 2nd gen were made in japan. There is a reason they are made in mexico.

Third gen has 6 spd manual tranny. I wish I had a 6th speed in my 2012 sport MT

A 2nd gen might be worth 15K if it has less than 10000 miles and looks new. Not like new, but looks new!! I got mine in very fine shape with 27000 miles for 10K recently

I've owned both.
I loved my Gen 2---it was a 2010 Sport.

But I think 15K, for a vehicle that is now approaching 4 model years old, and is the previous generation incarnation is a little high.

Unless it was in super pristine condition, with almost new like miles?
That seems a little high, since you can purchase new ones for just a few thousand more.

Also, my 3rd Gen Honda Fit was made in Japan.
I think for 2016 Honda switched production of Fits back to Japan. You can decipher the VIN numbers to make sure where it's assembled.
So not ALL 3rd Gens are made in Mexico.

Here's what I like about my 3rd Gen.
Love the sunroof.
IMO a very nice interior. Very refined.
Good balance between being fun to drive and being refined enough to use for longer road trips.
Has all the now expected Honda Fit utility--configurable seats.
3rd Gen returns the refresh mode...this doesn't exist in the second Gen.

Here's what I liked about my 2nd Gen.

I wouldn't say the interior was better looking. But it was more unique, and kind of eccentric. I liked the dual glove box, with the USB corded connection available in the top box.
I liked the seemingly overkill amount of cup holders and spaces. It became a bit of joke, but Honda seemingly made a space to put something...nearly everywhere they could.

It seems to me with the Gen 3 Honda Fit, Honda moved the interior look closer to the mainstream look of all their vehicles. It's a beautiful interior but while I'd say the Gen 2 looked somewhat individual and unique, the Gen 3 looks much more homogenized and mainstream.

The 2nd Gen, had more of a Go-Kart feel to me. Fun to drive. Maybe not as comfortable to drive on a longer road trip.

The difference between the two in this regard would not be a deal breaker or maker for either to me.
But there is a slight difference.

I'm going to be selling my '12 with 80k miles for around 7500...so no a '13 is not worth anywhere near 15k.

Man where were you when I was looking for a Fit 2 years ago :D Great/unique color and a 5spd. Too bad I can't buy yours to swap my parts over and sell mine haha.

I bought my 2013 with 50k miles in 2015 for less than $12k and that was with rays gram lights already and various other mods that made it a somewhat easy price to swallow.

I'd say a 2nd gen should not be more than $10k now. I also agree I wish the 2nd gen had a sunroof...but I dont care for the 3rd gen infotainment system, nor do I "need" a right lane assist camera...and lets be honest, how many people ACTUALLY use refresh mode?

I would say where I live locally, part of the "problem" if you are looking to buy a Gen 2 Honda Fit is they have an excellent, excellent reputation. They really hold their resale value.

That being said, I do agree that 15K for a 2013, seems high.

$15K for a 2013 is way too much unless it's brand new. It was somewhere in the vicinity of $18K originally, if my memory serves me, depending somewhat on whether it was a manual or an automatic and if it had navigation or not. If you can't find a better deal on a used one, it seems to me it's a no-brainer to get the new car.

There is an airbag recall that I think would include the 2013's; it certainly includes the 2012's. I wouldn't worry about that too much. My 2012 also had a recall to reprogram the stability control computer parameters, entirely a software change.
