2008 Fit Idles Rough, Engine Light On, Dealership Useless
 

I have really enjoyed driving my 2008 Honda Fit on my daily 60-mile round trip commute out in the west Texas desert. I have never had a problem with the car until recently. I have been reading the messages here for a while, and decided to ask if I have come up with a decent idea based upon what I have read here.

The engine light came on about a month ago & I called the Odessa, TX, dealership and made an appointment. The car did not want to shift gears, especially from fourth to fifth. It accelerated poorly and idled rough. This all came on fairly suddenly.

The dealership told me the car had 8 misfire codes. They replaced the spark plugs, charging me $89.50 for parts and $120 for labor. They also changed the oil, but did not reset the oil percentage calculator. The engine light came back on within a half mile of leaving the dealership. The car drove just as before - did not want to shift gears and idled rough. I got mad & have refused to go back there.

After doing a few searches and reading a lot here, I bought two bottles of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. I put in the first one with only about one-third of a tank of gas left. I put in the second one on the next fill up. The car began running better almost immediately. It still idles rough & the engine light goes off one day & comes back on another.

Based upon reading here, I am considering replacing the coil packs myself. Does this sound like a reasonable option to the more knowledgeable guys out there?

Absolutely. Then erase the fault codes so the computer has a blank slate to start over with.

Thanks for the quick response. I found a link to a video on this site that shows how to replace the coil packs & it looks pretty easy. I think this should finish addressing the original misfire codes.
