So my 2007 Fit sacrificed itsself....
Heading to work last Tuesday, I was heading into the sun. When I looked up from lowering my visors, I saw a work truck stopped in my lane a few car lengths ahead. I braked as hard as I could and swerved to avoid the truck. The passenger side of the Fit took the brunt of the impact. Swerving saved me from more serious injuries. Pics are below. |
Some images from the crash.

Glad you are ok!! That could have gone horribly wrong and not ended well for you.
The Fit's seem to not be having a good year. |

I wont argue with anyone's logic, as I am not their daddy, nor will I try to change their stance on things as their personal driving habits.... but .... here's some something I'd like to share. Please take it with a grain of salt.... it is the internet:
"Crash Avoidance Maneuvering: Should You Brake or Swerve?" https://www.hoganinjury.com/crash-av...ake-or-swerve/ Takeaway: Again, never swerve unless you know the way is clear, except in the case of avoiding a pedestrian that you’re about to hit. If another’s bad driving caused you to get injured, don’t hesitate to consult with our experienced lawyers. "The 9 Most Dangerous Things Drivers Do" https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...gs-drivers-do/ Takeaway: (see #7) "Teaching Drivers How to Get Out of a Skid or do an Evasive Swerve Can Result in More Crashes Afterwards, Not Fewer!" Skid and Swerve Training Lead to More Crashes, Not Fewer | Advanced Drivers of North America Takeaway: CAN RESULT IN MORE CRASHES NOT FEWER! "The Dangers Of Swerving To Avoid Potential Car Accidents" The Dangers of Swerving To Avoid Potential Car Accidents | The Schafer Law Office TAKEAWAY: Putting your life in danger. MSN Auto listed down 10 of the most fatal driver mistakes. Landing in the number one spot was swerving - not staying in your lane, drifting into the adjacent lane or running off the road. In 2007, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 15,574 people in the U.S. are killed merely because the driver didn’t stay in their lane. 1 last thing I'd like to throw out there ... when your INS company takes down a statement on the events of the accident, if you mention "SWERVE" ... that pretty much guarantees you're at fault. I dont know the reasoning/science behind it.... but .... just some food for thought for yall |
Yes swerving is bad but if he didn't swerve then I think he may have died or been in the hospital for a while. Swerving to avoid a dog, fox or deer can be more dangerous.
In my state if you rear end someone it is your fault, unless you can prove otherwise which is very difficult. |
