2009/10 Fit Recall Item
Honda Canada says it will recall 14,640 of its 2009 and 2010 Fit subcompact cars to replace a defective spring part.
The Canadian-sold vehicles are among nearly 700,000 Fit, Freed and City compact cars Honda HMC-N is recalling around the world for the same reason. The lost motion springs, which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, may bend or break over time resulting in abnormal engine noise. The spring was placed improperly in a small box inside the engine, so that, in some cases, the problem could cause the engine to stall, a spokesman in Tokyo said. The auto maker says there have been no reported accidents, injuries or vehicle crashes related to this issue in Canada. But Honda says at least 72 complaints were filed in Japan, and 29 abroad. Honda says owners of the affected vehicles should take their car to an authorized dealer as soon once they receive a notice by mail. Recalled are 167,000 vehicles in Japan, 156,000 in China, 233,000 in the rest of Asia and about 122,000 in North America. Canadian Fit owners can determine if their vehicle is in need of repair by calling toll free at 1-888-946-6329. |
