first oil change?
 

hey guys:

my maintenance minder came on yesterday when i hit 7500kmilometres on my car, still showing 15% oil life.
anyone know the part number for the oil filter(ie:fram filter). It doesnt say in the manual....i dont want to wait til next saturday to get it done at surrey honda.

You can use a 2005 Accord as a reference in the filter books as they use the same filter. I would recommend Purolator instead of Fram though.

First oil change is free at Honda BTW...

I did my own oil change at 3000km with oem oil filter and castrol GTX 5w20. I think I will do my 2nd oil change this weekend.

I don't send my car out to dealership for service unless it's for warranty/recall.

I used the OEM filter when I did my 1st oil change at 4500km. My oil meter reading was at 50%.

I didn't reset the meter and will bring it to dealer for their "1st" oil change when the reading goes down to 10%. I just don't feel comfortable with 7500km oil in the system for that long (no matter what other people said). It is just me.

just got my first oil change done at Middlegate honda today...got the oil change free only because i told them the first one should be on honda, and i started making a little argument...so they didnt charge me for oil change just to shut me up.

i hope i improve my 380kms on a full tank of gas on my car, now that its got its first oil change????. thats what the dealership said.
thats right guys...i get 380kms on a full tank/ 80%city driving.

I get 380km with 92octane gas also, by using 5w20 engine oil and I stuck in rush hour traffic all the times during work days. And I'm heavy on throttle sometimes

You're seriously wasting your money on 92 octane.
If it only calls for 87, putting 92 octane in isn't gonna make a bit of difference.

First of all thanks for your advice.

I've tried Chevron 87, 89, 92 myself. And apparently 92 gave me a lil better gas mileage but WAY smoother acceleration, better responds in 3rd gear and engine is quieter for some reason.

That's why I'm sticking with 92 now.

I agree with EK4. I have the exact feeling when using Chevron 92/94. I tried 89, 92 and 94 from Chevron. There is no different I could found between 92 and 94. But dropping it down to 89, I could definitely "feel" the differece.

I go up Willington everyday at roughly the same time (going off work). I could tell you that it is so much smooth for the engine to climb up Willington either it is free all the way up or it is a packed road.

Make your own judgement. If you want to save a few dollars, it is up to you. :)

actually ... i know this is true in 99% of cases but i'm starting to have my doubts with the fit

as you all know the fit was designed in 2001 and has been sold in the japanese, european, other asian (hell the rest of the world) markets for a while. I dont know about australia or indonesia but in england japan and HK the lowest octane gas you can get is 95

as far as I know the L15 is the same throughout the world so putting in higher octane might actually help (i'm cheap and I havn't done it yet but gas is getting cheaper so i might try it for a couple of tanks soon)

OK to be open minded I'm going to put 92 octane in for the next 3 tanks...that way the computer will have time to think it over and readjust if necessary.

I'm pessimistic at best but am going to try and be open minded.

My first idea was to have my brother or a friend fill up the car with premium fuel and see if i could tell the difference to avoid the placebo effect...but...i don't really think it should make a huge difference. whether i fill it op or not.

With 15% oil life showing, you should be alright till your service appointment on Saturday. Remember 1st oil change should be free - it is at Richmond Honda where we bought our FiT. ;)

Middle gate honda is free too. they told me i can bring mind there for the first oil change for free.

And at the Kamloops dealership as well! I think it's a safe assumption that your oil change will be free as well....

Who ever is doing their first oil change before it's at 15% is not letting the car break in properly. They put a special break in oil in that new motor. Gooulet!:p

With my first oil change I didn't even have to jack it up. Easily the easiest oil change I've ever done. With the winter shoes on she's sitting a little higher than normal. Remember to ask for that washer when you pick up a filter. They have a tendancy to fall into the oil catch pan when you take off the drain plug. I think they are around 50 cents a pop. Might be able to find one cheaper at Homedepo or crappy tire.

Most of us who opted to change oil before the magic 15% (me included) should already know about that break-in oil. We still do that because we "think" we are smarter than Honda engineers and trust new oil is doing its job better than dirty oil. :)
