Low Fuel Indicator Doesn't come on any more
 

Hi Everyone
Can anybody shed some light on what's going on with my Auto DX Fit? The low indicator fuel light used to come on when there was like 1/8 of a tank left. Then, at one point the indicator flickered on and off. Then it came on right at "E" and the arrow plummeted at the same time. Now, the arrow, hovers at that point forever and doesn't even come on. I filled with gas because I didn't want to run out, but I know something is wrong. However, how do I prove that to the service guys? I took it in before and they kept saying nothing's wrong, but I know there is. Thanks in advance.

A very easy answer: CALL the dealer and ask about this issue! You car is 100% under warranty so all repairs (fixes) are FREE-OF-CHARGE!!! They will tell you to bring the car to them at your earliest convenience so they will fix the problem for FREE! If you'll need a car while your car it's been fixed, ask and they must provide you with a rental until your car is ready for p/u!
So far I have no gas indicator issue with my 5AT Sport!

get a jerry can and fill it up with gas, run the car till until a) the light turns on, or b) u run the tank dry, at which point u just fill it up with the gas u got.

Then take it to the dealer and bitch.

No problem, very good advice, BUT: when you ran out of gas (regardless the low-gas indicator goes off or not) the car just died on you, you will have to use the "jerry" (very good idea to carry a 5 liter one full of the time) exactly when your car ran out of gas... I used to have a Civic before, ran out of gas lots of times (including twice on 401) but the Civic allowed me to drive the car for up to 1 km so to get it on the shoulder, but with the Fit, you get the very same strong shacking, all dash-lights go red, and that's it, you will have to use the jerry including in the middle of an intersection or middle of 401, so be very aware of this issue...

They have a courtesy vehicle here for use, but in order to use it, you have to book weeks in advance. I needed work done on my fit several times and have not had the convenience of using their courtesy car becuase i can't wait the 2-3 week wait.

No NOT courtesy vehicles, those ones are company (dealer) cars and driven just by their own drivers and they take you from the dealer and drop you off at your chosen point of destination (and the other way around), I was talking about a RENTAL car (Enterprise, Discount, Avis, etc.) PAID BY the dealer for the duration of the warranty repair, and YOU will drive that rental same as any rental on the market... each dealer has its own rental company is working with, mine is with Enterprise, BUT you gotta INSIST that you want a RENTAL car otherwise they will treat you like a nobody, so... be aggressive and know what you really want from them;)

I'm not talking about the shuttle services either. The dealership where I live has ONE couresy car that you can borrow for the duration of your repair (so long as you book long enough in advance), as well as a shuttle service to drive you and pick you up at your convenience. I've just never heard of them being required to cover the cost of a rental car for the duration of your warrenty repair?!?

My friend, I live in a 5 mil people city, Toronto, you live in a little town in BC, you cannot compare the services a dealer from a large city provide to its customers with a very small one...
The GM of the dealership I bought the Fit from has known me for many years, he knows that I drive for living so he has no problem giving me a rental car paid by him, the problem is that he is allowed to pay for up to 200 km/day, company policy, when I drive about 400 km/day, so I'll have to pay for some 200 km/day, once again all of the above is while your vehicle is still within the factory warranty... and the rental company is either Enteprise or Discount...

You misunderstood me. I was not comparing. I was questioning. I was under the impression that you were trying to say that dealers were responsible for providing vehicles while yours is in for warrenty.

Wow, so what you're saying is I'd really have to have that can of gas or my car just stops. That's kinda scary. Luckily I monitored it again this time, and for some strange reason, it went on just right before hitting the "E". It's inconsistent, which is frustrating. But at least the kilometres are beginning to get under control. It used to be all over the place before I got over 2000k on my Odometer.

Up to 50 kms with the low gas indicator light on... always carry a 5-liter tank, full of course, at the back, no smell at all, have used it dozens and dozens of times, twice with the Fit, emergencies of course...

You're very welcome... Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, any place with automotive products carry this item...
Also I bought and have used since last August a locking gas cap, it comes with two little keys, so no more worries somebody will pour some water or sugar in your car gas tank, I bought it from an PartSource/AutoParts store in Toronto, but I think their head office is somewhere in BC or Alberta, about C$20 and it's been working flawlessly...
