oxygen sensor....
would a dirty oxygen sensor cause my check engine light to come on ? i am getting a fit this week... and i am trading my 98 civic in...... ive never had a problem with it... EVER now the engine light is on... what should i do??? i dont wanna sink a lot of money in it.. cause i getting rid of it in a few days, and i dont want the dealer to give me less than im already getting cause im only getting 1200 as it is.... help !
|
did you do something to the civic that might have gotten the O2 sensor dirty, like swap parts or something?
i think it's a possibility but unlikely since the sensor isn't normally exposed to the outside. if your CEL is on, it could be anything really. |
no... its all stock. i know in the manual it says the CEL is exhaust, intake etc... thats what i gathered anyway. i was hoping it was something cheap... damn. it.
|
when was the last time you gassed up?? If youre gas cap is loose, it will set teh CEL on
|
read the CEL it will tell you exactly what is wrong
|
havent got gas in a 3-4 days...

im guessing a shop has one ? do they usually charge alot to hook up and check it out ?
|
Not ALL shops will have it. I work at an automotive shop, which has been up since 1926 and we get TONS of diagnostic problems. We don't have a scan tool that can communicate with 2007 cars. (CAN Data not OBD2) If you're going to a shop, make sure they can hook up to your car. TO be totally honest, your best bet is the dealer.

ok, first off, if you're selling a 98 civic for $1200, you shouldn't have to fix ANYTHING.... i am a buyer for a used car dealer and i guarantee you could get $3000 within a day on craigslist... seriously, here's an example of what the DEALERS are paying at the dealer auctions:
These are the EXACT numbers from the WHOLESALE dealer network from Manheim auto auctions... This is for a 1998 Civic LX Sedan... These are the prices they pay for them, then they mark them up $1000 - $2000 to sell to you!! it reads as follows: date/auction location/auction type/price sold for/miles/condition/color/transmission (4G - Auto) 04/18/07 CADE Regular $4,900 96,888 Above WHITE 4G 04/18/07 HRSNBURG Regular $2,300 155,411 Below 04/18/07 NEWBRGH Regular $3,500 113,245 Avg 04/18/07 ORNG CTY Regular $2,800 116,849 Avg 04/18/07 SEATTLE Regular $4,550 105,828 Above 04/18/07 SEATTLE Regular $4,350 147,562 Above 04/19/07 AMERICAN Regular $2,300 110,365 Below 04/19/07 FRESNO Regular $3,350 173,729 Avg RED 04/19/07 LAS VEGA Regular $3,300 130,617 Avg 04/23/07 AYCOCK Regular $3,800 143,169 Avg BLUE 04/24/07 BISHOP B Regular $2,800 145,386 Avg 04/24/07 INDY Regular $2,650 104,617 Below BLUE 04/24/07 LAUD/MIA Regular $2,150 220,884 Below 04/24/07 LOS ANGL Regular $4,450 99,987 Above GREEN 04/24/07 STATESVL Regular $4,750 105,190 Above 04/25/07 CADE Lease $2,750 150,400 Avg GRAY 4G A 04/25/07 UTAH Regular $3,000 167,847 Avg BLACK 04/25/07 VA VEHEX Regular $1,550 228,905 Below 04/26/07 LAUD/MIA Regular $3,800 71,486 Avg GREEN 04/26/07 NORTHWY Regular $2,900 126,565 Avg 04/26/07 W PALM Regular $3,600 96,657 Avg BLUE 4G 04/27/07 LOS ANGL Regular $4,050 101,073 Avg 05/01/07 GTR TUSC Regular $2,900 95,229 Avg BLACK 05/01/07 LOS ANGL Regular $3,900 102,834 Avg 05/02/07 BAY CITI Regular $5,100 115,792 Above 05/02/07 CADE Regular $2,650 198,783 Below WHITE 05/02/07 HRSNBURG Lease $3,200 124,448 05/02/07 KC Lease $2,050 88,044 05/02/07 NADE Regular $4,700 119,100 Above BLACK 05/02/07 NADE Regular $2,600 98,243 Below SILVER 05/02/07 NEWBRGH Regular $3,600 117,991 Avg 05/02/07 NEWBRGH Regular $3,300 157,162 Avg 05/03/07 ATLANTA Lease $2,000 93,721 Below GREEN 05/03/07 DFW Regular $3,000 157,440 Avg MAROON 05/03/07 LAS VEGA Regular $3,100 130,694 Avg 05/03/07 ST LOUIS Regular $1,650 174,406 Below 05/04/07 DALLAS Regular $3,400 163,387 Avg GREEN 05/07/07 AYCOCK Regular $3,800 108,403 Avg TEAL I don't mean to sound so pessimistic, i just hate when dealers lowball like that... you should get 1200 if it is totaled with frame damage and unknown miles... the closest one to that number sold at a dealer auction for $1500... with 225,000 miles! |

I believe that either Autozone or Pep boys will pull the code for you for free. If not there is a way you can jump it with a paper clip and read it from your cluster.
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557 Check that thread out and report back to us. =) |
Take it to autozone they can pull hte code and even give you a printoff of what that code means and suggestions on how to fix it.
|
You can get the check engine light cleared by your mechanic for $25.
|

does that work for the jazz/fit as well?? i also have the light comming up on the dash, loss of power and a cam noise when driving and pushing the car in gears (but ok when revving at standstill). thought it was some sort of sensor as well. |
My CEL light came on on my 99 Civic and it was my O2 sensor- they replaced it. I think it was less than $200.

You will loose radio presets and if your radio requires a code you will be required to enter it. |
