Detroit News "Honda to market performance Civic"
 

Honda Motor Co. will launch a performance version of the Honda Civic in the United States in mid-October.

Retailing for less than $30,000, the aerodynamically-styled Civic MUGEN Si Sedan is equipped with a high-performance suspension, forged aluminum wheels and a sport-tuned exhaust system.

"Honda enthusiasts have long been asking for factory-installed MUGEN performance products similar to what the company offers in Japan," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda

you wont, there wont be more than a few a state, and i heard about them like a year ago

forgot the count of how many mugen civics.. either like 200 or 500 or I could be TOTALLY wrong.. 10,000? damn I read about it in a mag.. sigh

but wait a sec $30,000 for a civic. just think for a second would you pay 30 grand for a new civic when you well know that there are other cars that in/under that price range that are faster. but i can't say anything the civic and how that car will handle with out read a review about it or test drive one myself.

Yeah, $30,000 or close to it is way too much for a Civic. That price puts in into a higher class with much nicer cars. At that price range I would rather spend a couple thousand more and look at the EVO or STi. Most likely I would spend a couple grand less and get the Mazdaspeed3. I like MUGEN parts but they are SOOO expensive.

Coincidentally, it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a $30K Civic. When we were originally looking for the Si coupe, we came across some New England dealers charging OVER $30K in mark-up and accessories. BEFORE tax, tag and registration.

I just built an Si coupe on Honda.com and with the optional body kit, 18" HFP wheels and 8 disc CD changer on the Navi/ST model, I came out to $25,800 give or take a few bucks. That's before dealer cost of installation and TTR. If you slapped the HFP suspension underneath that, you'd come out to close what the Mugen car is supposed to be priced under.

That's STILL too much for a Honda Civic.

yeah, definitely too much for a civic. although I love Honda to deaths, they do have the trend of charging more than their competitors for roughly the same performance mark. this mugen civic is a prime example. it doesn't matter how awesome the handling is, it's still a $30k civic after tax, title, options, destination, etc.

it used to be that you paid more for a honda because of the reliability and overall driving fun factor. while those traits are still a big part of why I love Honda, the competition is catching up and pricing much better. again as stated, you could buy any number of faster and/or better equipped cars.

if Honda REALLY wants to build a $30k civic that people will buy, sell us a 4WD civic with the 2.3L I4 turbo from the RDX. that would definitely rock.

That article did very little to make me like the idea of the car. I like how they list "50mm shift knob" as a featured spec at the top. You know the Civic has very little going on for it when that has to be pointed out. On the other hand, you may be able to get a great deal on one late in the year when they are taking up space on dealer lots not selling.

Mugen Civic first, then the Mugen s2k. both overpriced.

Currently none have been made for the USA They are about to release 300 but it is Japan only.

lol, torque steer anyone? if only they'd give it SH-AWD or some form of 4WD, since it feels like Honda would go that route before they'd give it RWD.
