Chryslerization - is it just me?
Okay, is is just me, or are the current Chrysler offerings some of the ugliest cars ever? Slab sides, tiny windows and as much charm as the back end of a bus/coach.
I can usually take or leave car designs - some I think are quite nice, others I am not fond of, but this current crop of Chryslers really does cause my face to screw up in instant cat's bum expression. They are hideous. That said, the worst thing is that I see this trend affecting other cars. Scion's range used to be quite nice looking - even the Xb had (to me) its own boxy charm. But yesterday I saw a 2008 Xb and a 2008 Xd and both had been infected with the Chrysler ugly disease. Slab sides, tiny windows and ugly protruding fenders. I mean, this is Toyota we are talking about . . . influenced by these ugly behemoths. If Honda finds it impossible to resist this disgusting trend, at least I have my 2007 Fit and will hang on to it until some semblance of sanity returns. |
Its not just you, they are some of the UGLIEST cars on the road these days. The 300c is there best car and i would never drive the low quality piece of junk..Its sad how pitiful American cars are these days, they better turn their direction or they will be screwed..
Who would buy a For Fusion over a Camry or Accord, you have to be crazy to buy a F-150 over a Tundra..And who in their right mind would buy that pitiful thing called a Chevy Cobalt lol..Just a few examples.. Ohh i forgot to mention Caddilac, they are by FAR the best American car company..Example-2008 CTS! |
Chevy Cobalt - ugh!
My 2001 Accord had one of those dodgy transmissions, and it spent two weeks at the dealer getting a new one.
During that time I had a Chevy Cobalt rental from Enterprise. Ugh. I liked the radio which displayed station and song info. And, um . . . that was about all I liked about the car. I was soooo glad to get my Accord back. The Board Treasurer for the Organization I work for is leasing a CTS, and she says it is really fun to drive! :) |
The smaller windows is called the 'pillbox' look. It's supposed to make people feel safer inside because there's more metal than glass. The new FJ cruiser and hummer h3 also has this styling cue. It's supposed to make cars look tougher. Crysler cars in general don't inspire much compassion, but there are a few good ones. The SRT8 Cherokee, SRT10 Viper, and SRT8 Charger look and sound awesome. Yes, if you're wondering, I interned for Chrysler last summer.
|
I was in a 300 the other day for the first time, and I was like, what the hell, they call this an interior? I think of it as the gangster look, boxy lines, tiny windows... not my cup of tea. Some of my friends seem to like them though.
|
It's also called a 'chop top' look.
And I love it. |
I've actually thought that Chrysler's design is quite unique and borrows heavily from art deco stylings. The slab sides and protruding fenders, as you describe them, add more metal to the car and embody geometry and modernism - tenets of art deco. I guess some could say that it's ugly, some could say it's impersonal and unshapely, but I dig it. My favorite element of the Chrysler style is the raised, streamlining ridges on the hood of many of their cars.

hahah the only thing a 300c is good for is 20" and up rims! the hemi one is pretty badass though.
|
^Yeah my friend has a Magnum with the hemi and it is powerfull, but low quality..Hes already had HUGE tranny probs...
|
^Yeah man Hemi Magnum's are pretty fast, but i wouldn't drive one still. one time i was at the drag strip and there were 3 Hemi Magnums there, each running 12-13 sec if i remember right

Transmissions issues and Mopar go hand in hand.

But I've gotta admit, if i had the money i'd TOTALLY buy an SRT8 Charger. Not because it's good, but just because i would make it SO LOUD, that when i start it up, the neighbors would think that Armageddon was coming!! Beautiful exterior, HORRIBLE interior, HORRIBLE mechanically too. Come on, you've gotta admit that the front end looks VERY aggressive!!! (one of the most aggressive front ends on the market right now) http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/3...llery05hp7.jpg |
I was looking at the DOdge Caliber SRT4,
When i was shopping for my family car, it was the Honda Fit which was no where to be seen, the dodge caliber, and the subaru WRX. I went to see what the Matrix was all about, it was nice, but the price didn't match, and I didn't like driving an SUV, didn't like the idea. The WRX was nice with its twin turbo... but the inside felt cramped I thought about packing in stuff, random stuff. the Dodge caliber felt awesome, if I hadn't found the Honda Fit at Anderson Honda, I would have gotten the Dodge Caliber, only because i liked the look of it, and it came in black, and I thought of all the possibilities I could go with it, looking good and aggressive =3 I'm a honda boy, and I still went for the Fit 2 days after test driving the Caliber. |
^Nice choice by going with Honda!
|
Maybe, I love hondas, and I like the choice, but if I could pick again, it would always be Honda if it's available.
If I hadn't seen the black honda fit, i would have gotten it... I wouldn't have hated the choice either. |
I adore Art Deco . . .

Borrows a bit - perhaps. At all successfully applies or emulates - not in my opinion. :) |
i dunno about you guys but nissans been making some weird looking stuff.. ever drove a new quest?
|
As a piece of art, I think they look nice, very muscular and sexy. Functionally, it's a different story... poor head room, poor visibility, poor economy, and I don't even need to mention reliability.
|
Yeah I heard that the mercedes transmissions on those things were not well built.
