Fit vs Miata... in the Tracks!

Though both are two very different cars, i have heard numerous facts about both being great track cars.

The horsepower ratio between the two cars are almost comparable; that is, the NA Miatas vs the Fit, but regardless of whether its NA, NB, NC, etc, let it just be Miatas vs Fits.

what i would like to know is, what are the disadvantages of a Fit over a Miata, besides it being FF? and are there any advantages of the Fit over a Miata?

my first intentions was to get an s2000, but i did not think it was really worth buying an impractical car for such a high price, when a Miata is just as fun. then i thought, a Fit was just as great(or as i hear) on the tracks, and i can daily it; it being a 4 banger. most likely i am going to pick up an NA Miata(90-97) for under 4,000 vs buying a brand new Fit for MSRP.

i understand this is a Fit-based forum and of course, there are many that are biased. if possible, can i get the closest-to-unbiased answers possible? greatly appreciate your opinions. this will help me get an idea of what my next car can be.

I own a 1996 (NA) Miata with the 1.8 engine. I am considering a Fit, but I think I have decided against it because of the paint problems people are having. My daily driver is a 2006 Scion xB. The horsepower to weight ratio is not that close. This are rough numbers. The Miata is about 2100 lbs and it has 131 hp with the 1.8. The Fit is about 2500 lbs and only has 109 hp. That calculates to 16.03 lb/hp for the Miata and 22.94 lb/hp for the Fit.

Living in Pennsylvania, I can say that the Fit would be better as a daily driver. Hope this little bit of information helps.

I have a Manual taffeta white Fit sport.

1. It doesn't have a paint problem (maybe in the front spoiler because I scrape it everywhere:o )
2. There are (IMHO) not comparable cars. (different reason of been).
3. I'll love to create a replica of AJR's fit when I buy my next car, but I will buy a miata (any freaking year) as soon as I can liberate some cash.
Then, and only then I will have the car that can only be replaced by a newer one.

It is a matter of what you need from a car. I personally need the Fit's space because I have 2 kids and I am a keyboard player, but I have driven miatas, and there is no fair comparison between the 2 cars.

Now there will be a whole lot of people saying that there are Fits faster than a miata (i.e. jmdchris and The k20 fit (sorry for not remember the member) gotfitted or something, or even the Mighty aJR Fit), but It just can't be as pure as the driving experience in a miata.

NOW. that been said Ill like ALL OF YOU to know that I love my Fit, and 40++K miles of pure fun demonstrate it.

I saw my fit in 20 years as an old CRX. "The car that everybody stills talking with respect and admiration for been such a little jewel"

No paint problems here. I love my Fit iv'e seen some spec'd for the track that do well, but imo id still take a Miata to the track. Yeah yeah I know its not a Honda but in all honesty any track car with back doors and or seats is just disturbing to me, but thats me hehe. :p :D

X2. I've seen Miatas kill every single car on a track.

for more reliability...fit

stock for stock, miata hands down. Just put a snail on my buddies, can't wait to take it out.

"It is a matter of what you need from a car."

This is the real crux of the matter. If you're intention is to build a track-only car, go with the Miata. If there are other consideratons in play, like being a DD, then the Fit would be better, unless you can live w/ the inconveniences of a Miata as a DD.

I am on the hunt for a clean miata.

BBRFit 11-22-2007 07:38 PM

I had a miata before the fit.

The miata is a better track car in almost every way, hell just look at the spec miata races.

Miata is a much more fun car to drive but I still dont regret the fit :D

i do miss RWD

I have a 2000 Miata and find the handling and reliability excellent. I get 33+ mpg even in the twisty hills of Colorado. For fun I have a 1991 Miata with a 450+ hp V-8 supercharged (Monster Motosport Miata) that looks completely stock. Great for surprising the expensive exotics. Only car to beat it in our twisty's has been an old Morgan. Probably a Lotus will also but very few others because of the weight (1550#). Nothing can beat low weight for a responsive handling car

My Miata that I owned and tracked back in the 90's is tremendously faster than my 08 Fit Sport on the sreet or on track. In fact my 91 CRX SiR which is somewhat faster than my stock Miata leaves my Fit in a cloud of dust within 2 turns. Maybe with a 150 turbo kit ...
