Odyssey Transaxle Fill Plug?

Hi,

Where is the transaxle fill plug for my 2002 Odyssey?

Thanks,
Scott

on the top behind the air intake tube, it has a 17mm hex but the
plug is bigger, and it says ATF on it.

hhmmm, still don't see it.
'are intake tube' - is that the tube that runs from the air filter box
and then under the engine cover?
Do I need to take the engine cover off?

Thanks,
Scott

Depends.

Did your van get the oil jet kit from the recall?

You might not if your van got the oil jet kit during the recall.

Yes, I got the oil jet kit. So, how does that change things?

Thanks,
Scott

The oil jet kit splits a tranny fluid return line and routes some of the
fluid back into what was originally the tranny fill plug.

The recall tested your transmission by having the tech open the fill
plug, shine a light down there, and take a picture of the 2nd gear which
is right there. The problem was that 2nd gear wasn't being lubricated.
If it showed indications of being burned or scorched, they replaced the
transmission. If not, they installed the oil jet kit to spray fluid on
it to keep it cool and prevent burning or scorching.

So now what was originally your fill hole is now filled up with fluid
lines.

Best bet: use the dipstick tube.

They inserted the tube for the oil jet into what was the fill plug. You
still fill it at that place, but instead of removing the plug, you remove
the bolt that holds the metal tube in place and pull the tube out. It is a
12mm bolt painted blue on mine.

wasn't thinking... in the same area find the rubber hose coming to
the top of the trans, it goes to a metal tube that is held in by a
12mm bolt, remove the bolt and pull the jet out of the way, fill as
normal and replace the jet.
the jet goes into a 24mm hex plug.

Re: Odyssey Transaxle Fill Plug?

Put a funnel into a clean, new turkey baster (with the rubber top
pulled off), and the fluid will go right down the dipstick and you'll
have easy access too. At least, that's how it is on the MDX clone.

Re: Odyssey Transaxle Fill Plug?

Thanks for everyones input. I talked to the mechanic at the dealer. He
says that he fills it through the dipstick. In fact he says he fills
all the V6s this way, because the factory torques the ATF fill hole
pretty high.

I used your standard ATF filler funnel with a flexible hose and then put
a short amount of rubber hose on the end, it fit directly over the
dipstick hole and I could pour stuff in as fast as I wanted to.

Thanks,
Scott

Did you find the plug?
If not, does the motor sit trans-verse or is it like the typical FWD?
