2005 honda accord running a little rough
 

I bought a 2005 honda accord exl 4 cylinder a month ago straight from
the dealer. I've noticed that the engine is running just a tiny bit
rough, but I don't know if this is normal or not. I don't want to take
it to the dealer to fix it, because I don't really trust them to tell
me if that's a normal thing or not. If it doesn't lead to problems
later down the line, then I can live with it, but is it something I
should be concerned about? If so, is there a place I can take it to to
give me an unbiased analysis?

In 1992 we had an 88 Civic wagon AWD. Made in Japan. 80K miles or more
on the clock. You couldn't even feel the engine running. Went out and
bought a brand new 92 Civic Si, made in Canada.

I said to myself, "why can I feel this brand new car shaking at idle,
when I can't feel the old car doing it at all?"

Man, that bugged me.

That being said: 137K miles later, that 92 Civic Si is still running
very strong, is on its original clutch (those weren't all gentle miles,
trust me), and looks showroom shiny. My nephew has had it for a couple
years now.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, but it's certainly a legitimate
question.

They build these engines so tight, they tend to get smoother after
break-in.

i agree with elmo - my experience is that the japanese motors are better
made. better balanced.

Thanks to both of you. How long should I wait to see if the problem
goes away? It's still there after 2,000 miles. I did not mention that
the car had over 500 miles on it when I purchased it; is this normal,
and is it possible someone could have damaged the engine during this
time period?

It's really starting to bother me, because I recently drove 2 other
honda accords (2004 and 2003) because they belonged to my relatives.
They had 10,000 and 43,000 miles respectively, and those cars felt
great (little or no engine flutter).
