Element 2004 - Transmission temperature gauge

Honda Element 2004, autm.
My question is related to the temperature of transmission fluid.
Is it necessary to add a separate temperature gauge for transmission?
Or the tranny temperature is shown on the same instrument with coolant
engine instrument?
I tow a trailer which is at the maximum limit admissible and want to
be sure the transmission is not overloaded.
In the user manual is mention to check the temperature instrument when
towing. But even in such condition, the values displayed is the same
with or not towing.

Thanks
Chris

Transmision temperature is different from motor temperature and of critical concern when towing. If you have an auto trans I strongly recommend installing an auxilliary transmision fluid cooler immediately. If it is a light trailer, at least install a temperature guage on the fluid line going to the stock cooler which may be integral with the radiator. Look for a pair of metal hoses coming out of the radiator and put your thermo sensor on the hotter one of the two. See my post and poll on thermometers under Guaging interest forum. If you are content with a simple test you can use a digital indoor outdoor thermometer. If you are interested I'll give details.
