mystery part on my wife's 2002 honda accord... help

Hey guys... sorry I haven't been on in a long time. But I figure this might be the place for a good question.

I recently got new headlight bulbs for my wifes 2002 honda accord 4cyl. Installed them without incident...

But I noticed this part just kind sitting in front of the airbox. I've got this illustration on a Honda site... the part in question is #5 (the tube)

http://www.thehondapartsstore.com/he...s820_b0105.gif

And it was just sitting there in front of the box with the horn shaped end towards the box. And it doesn't fit on the bottom of the box (like it looks like it should).

And I can't see anything that it looks like it belongs to. Even the rest of the box doesn't look like anything.

Your help would be appreciated.

Looks like it is the factory airbox/intake. The horn probably sucks air from someplace cool.

Yeah it is just part of the intake. Honda goes crazy putting tubes here and there for their intakes. You should have seen how many feet of tubing came out of my 95 gsr! The passenger wheel well was full of plastic tubes.

Problem is... I can't see where it belongs. The hole in the bottom of the air box is like an oval. The end of the tube that looks like it plugs up to something is round. And it doesn't fit. I even tried cutting it and squeezing it. Still nothing.

And it doesn't look like it even fits into anything on the rest of the diagram. Or anything else thats in the engine bay.

I'm thinking since it's getting good air as is... I'll just leave it out.

But I'd love it if someone has a picture of one of these in it's right place actually on the car...

hey, u see that round circular thingy next to number 6 on that diagram? I believe you just have to stick it in there, the one with the number 8 screw is supposed to go through. My friend has a 2001 and i have taken that piece out and in before. Just have to push it into that hole.

What kind of Accord is it?

Its a snorkel. Draws cooler air from outside, also keeps intake noise lower.
Just leave it off. Its really not needed.

it screws onto the whole coming out the top of the box...the one that bolt#8 points towards. put it in there and turn it...it should lock in place.

I second this notion.

I've looked all over the engine compartment for a place to stick this... and I just don't see it. Not even the other stuff depicted in the diagram.

To me, it looks like it should plug into the bottom of the airbox (under the filter, on the bottom part bolted to the car) but it doesn't fit there... I've tried.

I think I'm going to just leave it off and stop searching for a place to plug it. It seems to be running fine.

And there are no other openings that this could go into.

The hole for that pipe i believe is right behind the passenger side headlights. I remember having to remove that to install a HID kit on my friends 2001 Accord. Just search behind that headlight and u should be able to find it, use a flashlight cuz it might be a bit deep into that area. otherwise you can just leave it alone. It won't do any harm.
