Is the Insight's structural rigidity on the tinny side?
I just saw a Motor Trend long term update this week on the Insight
and 1 of their complaints about it was how it has a tin feel to it. Motor Trend isn't the first source I've heard say that about the Insight. But since I've had no experience with the new Insight, I was wondering what others think of its structural rigidity, especially compared to the Fit? I'm impressed with how solid the Fit feels for a subcompact car. The Germans, particularly Mercedes have impressed me with the stiffness built in to their cars, ever since the 70's. |
This is very limited and of course just my personal observation.
When I was looking at new cars, and my new car purchase, I checked out The Fit, The Civic, Accord and even The Insight. The Insight might be a great vehicle, but it's Fit and Finish did seem disappointingly lacking. The Fit is Honda's entry level sub-compact, so I expect a few cut corners. Such as the incredibly cheap carpeting. But the carpeting is just as bad in the Insight. Plus the feel of a lot of things, seemed cut rate, or just cheap. I wasn't impressed. It was the 1 Honda, I did not consider seriously based on the simple fact that I thought the fit and finish too poor. |
The Insight is most often compared to (and considered a competitor for) the Prius, which is a midsized car, and brings midsized quality.
The Fit is a subcompact, and compared to the likes of the Yaris, Aveo, Accent, Rio, and Versa. Can you imagine the carnage if they did a "best midsize car" comparison, and had the Fit against the Camry, Altima, Malibu, Mazda6, Fusion, etc.? |
