Fit vs Versa

Nissan is coming out with a Versa.. a fit competator.. check it out here..
http://www.nissanusa.com/versa/?Site=N06VSHBAY
it includes remote start and bluetooth! thats cool i guess 1.8L 120hp engine.. tell me what yall think.

Packy 06-15-2006 01:40 PM

Gas mileage is so-so... they keep downgrading the MPG estimates, and even the CVT automatic is rated at 28/35. I like the optional sunroof and bluetooth, but they cost a good chunk extra, and some of the stuff you have to buy as a package. Anyone know about the emmissions for the engine? I'm guessing it's not as good as the Fit, but I could be wrong.

[edit]I think the Versa looks really bland. And, what is up with requiring the convenience and audio packages if you want the sunroof? Also, I wish they'd nail down the price, because it always changes when you config your Versa.

I just got rid of my 2004 SE-R spec V for my Fit, and I can tell ya that the economy line of Nissans is sub par. My Fit has a nicer fit and finish that my 18k Sentra SE-R. It had engine, tranny, and paint problems the whole time. So I say stay away from the Versa.

choro72 06-15-2006 03:27 PM

Actually, I heard that if you don't care about the "fun to drive" factor, i.e. you just need a good, practical car, then the Versa is a better choice...But I haven't done any research on this car myself so I wouldn't know for sure. I just got the Fit because I couldn't wait for the Versa.

Wave 06-15-2006 03:28 PM

I was considering the Nissan Versa but it looks rather boring to me.

carlosalicea 06-15-2006 05:04 PM

i HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A NISSAN GUY ( OHHHHHHH MY 92' SENTRA SE-R) THAT WAS A CAR, AND THEN I HAD A B-15 SENTRA ( BY THE TIME IT GOT OUT 2000', IT WAS A HELL LOT OF CAR FOR THE MONEY), THEN AT 140,000MILES NOTHING HAVE FAILED. A GOOD CAR!! THEN A DRUNK DRIVER ( MYSELF) HIT IT TO A FENCEAND THAT IS IT. NO MORE SENTRA. THEN I BUY A 95' ACCORD CUPE WITH LEATHER AND ALL. IT WAS A GREAT CAR BUT NOT A DRIVERS CAR, NOT A CIVIC, AND NOW I GOT MY TAFFETA WHITE MANUAL SPORT AND NISSAN WILL BE MISSING ME AT THE DEALER FOR NOT HAVING THE VERSA ON TIME FOR THE TEST DRIVE (BAD FOR THEM) THE POINT IS THAT I KNOW FOR SHURE THAT THE VERSA WILL BE A GREAT CAR, ....................ONLY NOT A DRIVERS CAR

triggerzer0 06-15-2006 05:23 PM

aziatiklover 06-15-2006 05:24 PM

Spule 4 06-15-2006 10:12 PM

Check out the new Edmunds review:

Edmunds says the Versa sucks at handling:

What Needs Work:
Noisy powertrain at high revs, vague steering, less than athletic handling.

Bottom Line:
Commuting in comfort for four full-size adults, as long as the road to work is straight.

I'll take the Fit's handling anyday.

Packy 06-16-2006 04:05 PM

Ouch. Wasn't exactly impressive, and only 26mpg average for the MANUAL?! Eww. This is for a ~2500 lb car!

Curb Weight (lbs):
2,726

Heavier than the Fit, not by a terribly huge amount (~250 lbs for MT) but such unfortunate mileage.

Canadian pricing released, and it's compelling.

http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/...tid=63529&pg=1

$17,000 CAD for base + auto + power package/AC. With ABS, you're talking $17,500 tops (ABS is a 250 USD option in the US)

Canadian Auto Fit LX is $18,300, + $200 for keyless entry.

That's a 1 grand difference before taxes, and the difference is likely to be greater when comparing the 1.8 SL Versa with the Sport Fit.

If my Fit doesn't come within the next month, I would seriously consider walking over to the Nissan lot and picking one up that day.

hiroko12 06-18-2006 12:31 AM

Skyline GTR will be a Infiniti costing probably over $50,000.

big Fit 06-18-2006 02:27 AM

I thought it was a joke. no car will compete with the fits magic seats... They may look more cool but honda will be the standard in my opinion.

bani 06-18-2006 06:11 AM

the fit may be great, but the greatest car in the world doesn't do anyone any good if you cannot buy one. i have been told by all the dealers that the order backlog is 5 months or more. wonderful.

honda sure is doing their best to make sure supply does not come anywhere close to demand. i have yet to see any fits on the road, even most dealers don't have any on their lots... thanks honda, that versa is looking pretty good...

It is frustrating to keep reading comparison articles, with the Fit always coming out ahead of the pack, and then read on the Forum about how difficult it is for people to find the Fit. I wanted to check out the Nissan Versa, but needed a car right away. I didn't know at the time how lucky I was that I had to buy the Fit even before it hit the showrooms. Even at MSRP I feel I got a bargain. The big SUVs are popular with manufacturers because they bring in a bigger profit margin. Is this the bottom line for Honda? Or is it just that the Civic is such a huge seller that Honda won't or can't respond to the demand for the Fit?
