O_O daaaaaamn.... that would be a fun "sleeper" to say the least!!! I dig the GRM T too lol

The funniest part is the open diff letting him one wheel peel the whole way down the track and him having to abort most of the passes because of how crappy the tires were.

This is the same guy who wrecked his first colt at 200mph on the highway..

I <3 4G63 in Mirages and <3 GRM!

Totally wanted to put one in my 5th gen but too much of a PITA, shoulda got a 4th gen wah wah. Maybe next time.

I had a '97 Mirage, and I think that was a 4th Gen.

Considering how little I know about cars in general, I guess it was pretty foolish of me to imagine so many potential mods for that car.

Engine swap to a 4g63(t?).
Transmission swap from the auto to a manual,
"Drive" change from the front to all-wheel drive.
Body kit to the Evolution (forget which Evolution).

What mods did I end up ACTUALLY doing? Headlight swap to dual bulb and added a key less entry system to it. The key less was pretty tedious, but I loved it. Made it sooo much easier to unlock all four doors for my passengers.

JP's setup is so simple its not even funny.

The DSM 4G63 is a direct replacement for the 89 mirage, and after that.. I want to say the Evo 4-6 motor drops in the the late 90s mirage. You can mate it to a Mirage trans, or delete the center diff and AWD output shaft and use the Evo trans.

I'd have to double check but theres a ton of these.

As far as I remember you could use the readily available (in the US at the time) 4G63 from the Eclipse/Talon on the 4th Gen up to 96' fairly easily. You could use the Evo motor on the fifth gen. I don't remember what the limiting factor was, maybe bellhousing? I remember an Evo motor was out of my reach at the time for many reasons, including emissions compliance and money, let alone a motor AND transmission.

I still kind of want another 5G coupe to road race, turbo the 4G93 would be fine with me, but finding a 5G LS with 5 speed has been a bit of a unicorn hunt. There's DEs everywhere. This time around I don't care about smog legality.

I revisit the Mirage forums from time to time, wonder if this guy is or ever was on there...

Ah, I c.

I definitely forgot the details... it was indeed a 5th gen, it's been a while. I guess the engine model is wrong too. But yeah, mine was a DE. My dad had bought it as a salvaged title. I also remember being surprised that the "lowness" of the car was that way from the factory. It was the lowest car I had ever driven.

I miss that car.

Wanderer. 11-13-2012 10:25 PM

It was indeed a low car out the box! Mine was lowered 2" or so and I remember scraping just about everything and having to angle driveways. It was just on springs. Rode like crap (Sprint+GR2) but I didn't know any better lol

I would probably still have it if it didn't get wrecked, miss mine too.

:hugs:

lol
